| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Office of Scholarships and Student Aid works to ensure that qualified students have the opportunity to study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill regardless of their ability to pay. The office serves students at all levels, including graduate and professional school students and coordinates all student financial support for the campus. The office assists in the recruitment, retention and success of students while maximizing available funds, exercising good stewardship of those funds, and performing related research, analysis and program evaluation in support of long-range enrollment and campus goals. In addition, the office provides academic and co-circular support services for scholarships, provides financial literacy and educational tools, and partners with faculty and other student success areas across campus to provide excellent service to low- and middle-income students and other scholarship recipients. The work of the office is public in nature and closely scrutinized by students and their families, lawmakers, faculty and staff at the University, and by the media (local, regional, and national). |
| Position Summary |
The Office of Scholarships and Student Aid is looking to hire temporary support as a Rural Medicine Pathways Program Co-Director with the Carolina Covenant team. The Carolina Covenant is a unique combination scholarship and academic/personal support program which focuses on both access and student success. This program, along with other scholarship and aid programs, enables the University to enroll the best students from across North Carolina and beyond regardless of their family means. In addition to financial support, the program provides crucial academic and personal support services to the more than 2,000 Covenant Scholars enrolled annually. These support services are provided by the professional full-time staff of the Carolina Covenant, and by over 70 faculty and staff mentors who work closely with Scholars to maximize their success at Carolina and beyond.
The Rural Medicine Pathway Program (
RMPP) at
UNC-Chapel Hill is a cohort-based undergraduate mentorship and professional development program. Designed for Carolina Covenant Scholars from rural North Carolina, it aims to increase the primary care workforce and combat health disparities in medically underserved areas across the state. The program provides undergraduate students with shadowing opportunities and internship support during the academic year, summer professional development opportunities as well as service and community-based courses, trips, and volunteer opportunities to learn about social determinants of health, and engage directly with rural populations.
This position will lead
RMPP in the following ways:
* Provide deep mentorship and support of
RMPP students, including but not limited to tutoring, teaching, letters of recommendation, coordinating summer research and internship placements, and coordinating group activities, career immersion and networking opportunities.
* Maintain data on current and former student engagement and outcomes
* Cultivate meaningful partnerships for
RMPP in collaboration with the Carolina Covenant and Kessler Scholars team
* Recruit new students for the program from the Carolina Covenant and Kessler Scholars programs
* Participate in evaluation and assessment efforts, as well as reporting and storytelling in collaboration with the Director of the Carolina Covenant
* Partner with faculty co-director on student support and programming |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
| Management Preferences |
Experience in administering health career development programming, mentoring or coaching. Knowledge about the needs and assets of low-income or first-generation students on their path to medical school, and related fields.
Coursework in related field. |

| Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
