POSITION SUMMARY:

Laboratory work including gathering samples and performing tests for production and quality assurance following established laboratory guidelines. Effectively document, interpret and communicate analysis results within the context of the production facilities to maintain product quality. This position will also be expected to assist with loading railcars and trucks when not performing lab duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

Quality Control Testing / Production Support

  • Responsible for minor repairs on laboratory equipment and preventative maintenance.

  • Perform daily testing requirements.

  • Accurately sample and measure chemical and physical properties on all types of raw and finished products, environmental systems, and fuels following established laboratory guidelines.

  • Maintain the quality inspection and product release programs for incoming and in-process materials and components, processes and finished goods.

  • Monitor performance by gathering data and producing statistical reports.

  • Evaluates returned product and reports findings to department impacted.

  • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as work orders, bill of ladings, safety rules, standard operating procedures, maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.

  • Assist with tasks in other departments as needed. Assist with keeping loadout scales clean of water and debris.

  • Complete daily Mobile equipment inspections when operating equipment.

  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain a smooth and efficient flow of truck and rail traffic. Prior to loading product, inspect truck trailers and railcars to ensure they are free from containments.

  • Ensure different product types are distributed into the appropriate trucks/railcars, and the proper weight is loaded for each shipment.

Safety

  • Maintain chemical solutions, laboratory instruments, perform standardization or calibrations, and a clean work environment.

  • Collect and charge materials into designated equipment units accurately and efficiently.

  • Comply with company, state, and governmental health and safety regulations at all times.

  • Complete and document Workplace Inspections in a timely manner.

Training and development

  • Educate team members about plant quality control, assurance and awareness.

  • Ensure tests and procedures are properly understood, carried out and evaluated.

  • Cross train in other areas as needed.

Recordkeeping and compliance

  • Ensure federal, state, and local agency compliance standards.

  • Assess product specifications of company and its suppliers and compare with the requirements of our customers.

  • Communicate with internal and external customers and report supplier audit activities.

Safe Quality Food (SQF)

  • Ensure a SQF workplace and follow regulatory compliance with Federal FDA - Food Modernization Safety Act (CFR Code of Federal Regulations Title 21, Part 507).

  • Support Environmental Health and Safety, as well as SQF initiatives and awareness programs.

  • Be a leader and promoter of employee safety and SQF culture.

  • Following completion of SQF training, demonstrate understanding of expected safety, SQF performance and Food Safety Culture.

  • Complete periodic SQF training(s).

  • Each site location will ensure training is conducted for new employees and continued for existing employees.

  • Employees will actively participate in audits for regulatory, safety, SQF and environmental compliance at the site.

ATTRIBUTES:

  • Excellent communication skills and problem-solving skills.

  • Self-motivated and must be able to work independently.

  • Ability to complete required paperwork and mathematical assignments in a scientific format.

  • Demonstrated skills entering and retrieving data in a Microsoft based computer system.

  • Working knowledge of industrial manufacturing procedures and equipment.

  • Previous SAP Quality Assurance module experience preferred.

  • Proficient in computer software applications for equipment control, data collection and analysis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise and dust.

  • Walking up and down stairs and ladders, negotiating uneven surfaces.

  • Ability to occasionally lift/carry up to 40 pounds.

  • Effectively communicate and interact with supervisors, peers, external truck drivers, and dispatchers with the ability to multi-task and stay calm under pressure.

  • Able to open and close latches for doors on shipping containers, ie. Truck and railcars

REQUIRED EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED.

PREFFERED EDUCATION: Associate degree in a science-based degree program preferred and/or demonstrated skills and ability.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 1 year laboratory / Quality Control experience preferable in the cement or lime industry.

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 years' laboratory / Quality Control experience preferable in the cement or lime industry. Experience as a Bulk Loader or in a related position in industrial or manufacturing industry.
