STRATEGIC MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

The division of Strategic Marketing and Communications at UMKC is looking for a creative, collaborative videographer/photographer who can tell our story in various formats.

Job Description

This visual storyteller will have strong organizational and relationship-building skills, plus experience in balancing and meeting deadlines. Experience with video is the primary need for this position, but the position will require photography coverage of events and portraits as well. The ideal candidate will be adept at both mediums, but training and coaching on photography can be provided.

The job requires someone who can:

  • Capture well-crafted video footage and assemble it into content for various marketing and communications purposes (examples include short social media video clips, storytelling interviews with students and announcements of major gifts);
  • insert closed captioning, graphics, or other on-screen text into video content;
  • maintain a video and photo library that can be shared by other team members;
  • photograph or video campus events for internal clients as well as for public relations;
  • work as a member of a team to complete projects (including other photographers, designers, project managers and relationship managers), as assigned by the creative director;
  • set up and tear down cameras, audio recorders, lighting, microphones, and props;
  • maintain proficiency in the use of camera equipment, computer hardware and software and adhere to policies and procedures of Strategic Marketing and Communications;
  • troubleshoots problems with the equipment and make simple repairs;
  • strong technical understanding of how to make the most of camera equipment and configure lighting, audio and production equipment in order to get the best results;
  • make recommendations on equipment needs;
  • capture and archive background film or "B" roll footage, as well as interviews and voiceovers;
  • take portraits of faculty, staff, administrators and others as assigned;
  • accurately estimate and track time and costs;
  • other duties as assigned.
Shift

This is a full-time, benefit eligible staff position.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in art, graphics or a related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two to three years' experience in commercial videography or photography;
  • Proficiency in the following software in Mac format: Adobe CC including Premiere, PhotoShop and Lightroom; and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with PhotoShelter, or another Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform.
  • Experience operating a drone for b-roll and photography. Currently licensed is a plus.
  • Knowledge of how to optimize photo and video for publication in various formats, social media, publication with digital magazines, news articles and background video on websites.
  • Good people skills, including the ability to interact effectively with varied persons and personalities from all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at once, prioritize accordingly, communicate progress and meet deadlines in a changing environment.
  • Skills with motion graphics and advanced video editing
  • Ability to think strategically about how multiple projects fit together as a whole.
  • Business acumen on how to grow our photo/video enterprise in order to best support university priorities.
  • The patience and perseverance to get the best possible shot.
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $53,976 - $56,000 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
