Electronic Lab Technician IV Raleigh, NC Pay: $33.00 per hour 26-06029 Job Summary The Electronic Lab Technician IV supports research and development, product validation, certification, and new product development activities within a high-power laboratory environment. This role is responsible for setting up, instrumenting, troubleshooting, testing, and maintaining power systems equipment and prototypes while working closely with engineering teams. The position requires hands-on experience with electrical and electronic testing, power electronics, laboratory instrumentation, and safety procedures. The Electronic Lab Technician IV plays a critical role in supporting product development efforts, evaluating system performance, and ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards and testing requirements. Job Responsibilities
- Support research and development testing, product validation, certification, and new product development initiatives.
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
- Perform electrical and electronic testing in accordance with established procedures and industry standards.
- Set up, test, disassemble, troubleshoot, and reassemble uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and related power equipment.
- Collect, organize, analyze, and document test data and assist with preparation of technical reports.
- Develop and implement test methods to evaluate the performance, reliability, and functionality of electrical and electronic systems.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical circuits, power electronics, and test systems to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Fabricate, modify, repair, and maintain electronic assemblies, prototypes, test fixtures, and related hardware.
- Perform wiring and installation of test instrumentation and monitoring equipment.
- Operate laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, power analyzers, digital multimeters, power meters, data loggers, and related test instruments.
- Support equipment maintenance, calibration activities, and laboratory organization.
- Maintain compliance with safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and electrical safety standards.
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives and testing milestones.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior technicians.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to laboratory processes, equipment, and testing methods.
Job Requirements
- Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field required.
- Minimum of two to five years of experience in an electrical, electronics, laboratory, manufacturing, testing, or research and development environment.
- Experience working in a high-power laboratory environment.
- Ability to safely work with electrical systems up to 480 VAC and 600 VDC.
- Knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and electrical safety practices.
- Strong understanding of electrical and electronic principles, circuits, components, and power electronics.
- Proficiency using oscilloscopes, power analyzers, digital multimeters, power meters, data loggers, and related test equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and electronic systems.
- Experience supporting product validation, engineering development, certification, or compliance testing.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Strong communication, teamwork, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and move equipment and components weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced engineering environment.
Education
- Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline required.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Work Experience
- Minimum of two to five years of experience in electrical, electronic, laboratory, manufacturing, testing, or research and development environments.
- Experience supporting research and development testing and new product development activities preferred.
- Experience working with uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems preferred.
- Experience with single-phase and three-phase low-voltage power systems preferred.
- Experience with DC power systems and battery cabinet systems highly preferred.
- Experience with AC source equipment and load bank setup preferred.
- Experience with test instrumentation wiring and configuration preferred.
- Experience with electronic component evaluation and parametric testing preferred.
- Experience with electromechanical prototype fabrication preferred.
- Experience with PCB assembly rework, modification, and soldering preferred.
- Experience supporting UL, certification, compliance, environmental, EMC, or similar testing programs preferred.
- Familiarity with schematic capture, PCB layout, and simulation tools preferred.
- NFPA electrical safety training or related high-energy electrical safety training preferred.
