Position Summary

The Blade Repair Tech III is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of wind turbines and related equipment. This role ensures the safe and efficient operation of wind energy assets through mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical service work. Technicians work at significant heights and in a variety of weather conditions while upholding strict safety and quality standards.



Requirements

    High school education or the equivalent. College degree or Wind Energy Certification preferred.

  • 3 to 6 years' experience

  • Ability to travel to domestic and international locations for work and/or training for extended periods of time

  • Training/certificate requirements: GWO BST, ART, BTT (or authorized equivalency), Confined Space Awareness, NFPA70E, and LOTO

  • Flexibility to work overtime and rotating shifts as required

  • Previous experience working with hand tools and power tools

KEY TASKS & GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform assembly, commissioning, testing, repair, and maintenance on wind turbine generators and related equipment at wind farm.

  • Conduct and review safety analyses of potential electrical and mechanical hazards in the wind turbines, switch room, and the O&M building.

  • Support Root Cause Analyses to assist in determining equipment failure and the reasons for failures when they occur.

  • Troubleshoot, adjust, repair, and/or retrofit low to medium-voltage electrical, mechanical or hydraulic components and equipment associated with wind turbines and the wind farm

  • Safely perform rudimentary troubleshooting of wind turbine generators to include testing for the presents of low voltage (600 volts or less).

  • Replace core material in sandwich construction (less than 20 x 25 cm)

  • Repair damage and delamination of leading and trailing edge (less than 150 cm length)

  • Measure function and replace lightning receptor screw

  • Repair works on blade structure

  • Repair tip end damage, debonding, and change of tip shells

  • Repair cracks through laminate root end

  • Repair debonding and cracks on leading edge

  • Repair shell surface at all locations (holes/cracks through sandwich laminate, and delamination between core and laminate)

  • Repair blade structure debonding between spar and shell

  • Change lightning receptor

  • Repair lightning short circuit and circuit damage in fiberglass and carbon spar tip

  • Reconstruct and check complete lightning protection system

  • Work with technical support to perform major repairs

  • Able to inspect and report complex blade structure damage

  • Complete resets on individual turbines.

  • Complete work orders, CIs for maintenances, inspection forms, etc.

  • Turbine lubrication as required.

  • Hydraulic adjustments as needed.

  • Accurately account for time and materials expended in performance of the job function.

  • Report for work at the time and location specified.

  • Operate service equipment in a safe and manner and maintain records for the same.

  • Adhere to OSHA and company-specific safety protocols.

  • Report on work status as directed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong mechanical skillset and ability to quickly pickup new mechanical concepts

  • Ability to climb towers daily/work at heights

  • Ability to follow instructions and perform proper reporting minimum of one year of experience as a Wind Turbine Technician

  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced team environment



Working Conditions

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Outside environment with continuous physical effort, exposure to 5-7 elements/conditions, moderate mental effort, and occasional requests for assistance.

  • Enter and work within small or restricted areas, such as turbine hubs or towers.

  • Exposure to moderate to high noise levels.

  • Travel may be required.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS & DEMANDS:

  • Ability to climb up and descend 300 feet (90 meters).

  • Lift, carry, push, pull objects weighing up to 50-75 lbs

  • Maintain balance while working in confined or election areas.

  • Move safely across platforms, ladders, and turbine housing.

  • Must pass Respiratory Fit Test as required

  • Must pass Required Confined Spaces Test as required
