Position Summary Information
| Primary Purpose |
The
Associate Director of New Mountaineer & Family Engagement is a twelve-month exempt (
ERHA) position whose primary responsibilities are grounded in the engagement, outreach, and communication efforts of all App State parents and family members. This position directly supervises one professional staff member and is an integral member of the New Mountaineer & Family Engagement team. In addition, the Associate Director will also assist with student transition initiatives as a member of the
NMFE team. |
| Minimum Qualifications |
- Master's degree or comparable relevant work experience (at least three or more years)
- Experience organizing, implementing, and evaluating programs or events
- Experience working with students, families, and university constituents
- Strong oral presentation skills and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to motivate others, strong commitment to quality service, ability to work independently and as a member of a team with a flexible attitude
- Excellent communication and time management skills
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends
- Strong computing skills and efficiency utilizing computing applications on various systems and programs (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Banner, Google Apps, spreadsheets, etc.)
- Knowledge and understanding of the transitional needs of a diverse student community and their families (i.e., first-generation, rural, military, transfer, non-traditional, and low-income)

Valid driver's license (this position will drive university vehicles for events, conferences, and other necessary travel). |
| Preferred Qualifications |
- Master's degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, Higher Education, Communications, Public Relations, or related field. Or comparable relevant work experience (three or more years of professional work experience).

| Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
Responsible for this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Family Engagement Team, including direct communications, budget management, website updates, and programmatic efforts.
- Directly supervise the Program Coordinator for Family Engagement and additional student or graduate students supporting Family Engagement Initiatives.
- Collaborate with University and Community constituents to provide relevant engagement opportunities for family members of App State students.
- Assist the NMFE Director with selecting, training, and supervising Student Orientation Undergraduate Leaders.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of NMFE in the development and implementation of comprehensive orientation and transition programs for incoming Mountaineers and families for our Boone, Hickory, and Online campuses.
- Coordinate communication between the university and family members of App State students through various mediums, including the CampusESP Platform, social media, email, phone calls, etc.
- Serve as the university liaison for all App State parents and family members.
- Facilitate all Family Orientation and Transition Programs with the help of the NMFE team.
- Lead and leverage planning, assessment, and evaluation for family engagement efforts to continuously improve programs, services, and effectiveness.
- Provide excellent customer service to all students and families, faculty and staff, and all community partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned and agreed upon by the Director of New Mountaineer & Family Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs.
