Manufacturing Manager


Position Summary

The Manufacturing Manager manages all aspects of assigned plant production to achieve relentless improvement through Lean as the operational strategy, striving to achieve value stream and business unit goals and strategic directives. This role leads production teams, ensures adherence to safety, quality, and continuous improvement standards, and partners with the value stream leadership team to drive operational excellence.


Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of assigned plant production teams to achieve value stream and business unit goals and objectives.
  • Creates and fosters a leadership environment that is conducive to teamwork and demonstrates genuine concern for the personal and professional development of all manufacturing employees.
  • Ensures the development, implementation, and control of manufacturing processes, budgets, plans, and performance standards.
  • Forecasts production and inventory requirements in support of the Sales and Operations Financial Planning (SOFP) process.
  • Ensures Continuous Improvement (CI)/Lean concepts and techniques are utilized throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Ensures the development and deployment of a safe and healthy work environment, including appropriate training in safety practices.
  • Coordinates purchasing and material control processes to ensure product availability, quality, and to minimize inventory carrying costs.
  • Assists with the transfer of products from concept to commercialization.
  • Establishes goals and targets that support the value stream strategy and business commitments.
  • Participates on the value stream leadership team.
  • Collaborates with the Maintenance Manager to implement TPM plan.
  • Builds and develops continuous improvement plans as part of the Value Stream.
  • Collaborates with the Value Stream Leader to implement SOFP, Capital Plan, and Succession Planning for the Value Stream.
  • Uses The Watlow Way (WW) and the Watlow Business System (WBS) as the thinking and methods of how we do and improve our work.
  • Provides staff development, coaching, and recognition; creates a team environment that demonstrates genuine concern for the personal and professional development of all team members.
  • Applies organizational metrics and correlates their relevance to business success.
  • Identifies changes and trends in processes and requirements.
  • Leads organizational initiatives to achieve best practice, financial results, or Lean objectives.
  • Establishes and ensures adherence to budgets and business plans.
  • Champions open two-way communications and demonstrates an understanding of various perspectives.
  • Communicates value stream and business unit strategy, goals, and results to manufacturing team members.
  • Sets business priorities for work activity.

Education, Experience and Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or enrolled in a continuing education program.
  • Technical certification preferred.
  • 7-10 years of Lean leadership experience preferred.
  • Project management experience.
  • Leadership training.
