Duties and Responsibilities
The research assistant will lead and contribute to research projects in Dr. Tauana Cunha's lab atLoyola University Chicago. This position includes analysis and interpretation of genomic data and scientific writing. Applicants should have experience with genome-scale sequencing of non-model organisms and command-line bioinformatics.The position also involves upkeep of laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifuges, thermocyclers, nanopore sequencer), stocking supplies for the lab, and training/supporting student research activity.

The employment is contingent upon the availability of funding and may be limited to one year.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Required: Bachelor's degree in related field and one to two years of related experience.
Preferred: Master's degree in biology, evolution, or a related field
Qualifications

  • Master's degree in biology, evolution, or a related field
  • Proficiency in R and command-line/bash scripting
  • Experience with molecular lab techniques (DNA extraction, library preparation, high-throughput sequencing)
  • Familiarity and/or enthusiasm for working with invertebrate animals
  • Ability to work with and excitement to be a part of a diverse group with individuals from a variety of backgrounds
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses
Required: Bachelor's degree in related field and one to two years of related experience.
