Posting Type: Open Competitive Work Type: Full Time Nature of Work: This is highly skilled maintenance and specialized repair work on a variety of complex types of automotive, medium, heavy truck, forestry, golf turf, construction, fire apparatus and related fleet equipment. Work may include acting as a lead worker and providing training to subordinates. Work is performed under the direction and general supervision of a foreman. Education and Experience: The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience. High school diploma or its equivalent AND 1. Two (2) years of vocational or trade school in an automotive or diesel mechanical program OR 2.Six (6) years of experience working as a skilled mechanic in a dealer or large fleet work environment, including experience with gasoline, diesel, and electrically powered equipment Special Qualifications: Pay Range: $32.25 with step increases to $39.19 Hourly Benefits: Forty-hour work week. Examination Information: The examination will consist of a structured interview which will be scheduled at a later date. The structured interview is designed to assess job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. The final eligibility list will be assembled from those candidates achieving a passing score of 50% on the structured interview (100% weight). Veteran Points: To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Knowledge of, and ability to operate, computers and other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Performs and coordinates master-level diagnosis, maintenance and repair of automotive, medium/heavy truck, forestry, golf turf, construction and fire apparatus vehicles including overhaul and repair of gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions and drivetrains, heating and cooling systems, alignments, clutches, brake systems (including air brakes), differentials, exhaust systems, fuel systems, and a variety of small engine driven equipment. Performs all the duties of a Fleet Maintenance Technician.
