Assistant Director, Residence Life and Education

The Opportunity:

The Assistant Director, Residence Life & Education provides leadership and oversight for a residential area currently comprising 12 residential communities serving approximately 8,000 residents. This position offers strategic direction and operational guidance to residence life staff, including Residence Life Coordinators, Graduate Coordinators, office support staff, and student staff (Resident Assistants and Office Assistants).

This role performs complex professional student services work, addressing multifaceted residential concerns by assessing situations, developing appropriate courses of action, and implementing effective solutions. In addition to primary responsibilities, the Assistant Director leads a key collateral area, which may include professional staff training or social engagement and large-scale programming initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Staff Supervision & Development:

• Recruit, select, train, develop, and supervise Coordinators of Residence Life & Education, Graduate Coordinators, and/or other full-time and student staff in the Department of Housing & Residence Life.

• Design, execute, and assess student staff and professional staff training initiatives.

Crisis Response & Critical Incidents:

• Coordinate timely, caring follow-up for critical incidents and crisis events in university-owned, managed, and affiliated housing.

• As part of a rotation, lead after-hours crisis response for incidents that occur in and around university-owned, managed, and affiliated housing.

Facilities & Operations:

• Coordinate timely follow-ups for all facilities concerns to internal partners (including custodial, maintenance, keys, access, safety, and security needs).Plan and execute housing early openings, move-ins, and closings.

• Support internal partners in the following areas: coordination of room changes, special accommodations, enrollment verification, occupancy management, access restrictions, evictions, marketing functions, and communication with residential students.

Student & Community Relations:

• Communicate with residents, parents, and guardians to understand and resolve concerns.

• Serve as a liaison to University Police, Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Care Services, and other university departments as directed.

Student Conduct:

• Serve as a Residence Life Conduct Hearing and Appeal officer.

Assessment, Reporting & Compliance:

• Author reports as directed on programs, facility issues, incidents, student concerns, and staffing.

• Assist with internal standard operating procedure and protocol review, implementation, and assessment.

• Maintain records in accordance with institutional policy, Florida state laws, and federal mandates.

Budget & Resource Management:

• Oversee budget management for assigned residence life communities and collaterals.

Institutional Engagement:

• Serve on departmental, university, and divisional committees, task forces, or working groups as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's and 4+ years of relevant experience or Masters degree and 2+ years of relevant experience with at least 1+ year(s) of leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree and previous experience in residence life.

• Five (5) years of full-time, post-Master's work experience.

• Previous Assistant Director experience servicing students in higher education.

• Experience building strong relationships with private/public partnerships.

• Ability to manage residential operations, staff training/development, student leadership and selection processes, student learning and academic initiatives, and conduct/community standards.

• Ability to lead positively through organizational change in a student-centered environment.

• Ability to oversee other locations as needed

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

• This position requires on-call availability outside of standard business hours, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays, as operational needs arise.

• The position requires the ability to oversee locations across the Main Campus and Rosen Campus.

• The anticipated salary range for this position is $56,030 - $61,500. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

• All applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position, and the university cannot accommodate H1B transfers or employment-based visa processing for individuals currently sponsored by another employer.

• Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
