Job Description

The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) seeks an experienced, motivated, and student-centered Head Rowing Coach to lead all aspects of its rowing program. The Head Coach is responsible for recruiting and developing qualified student-athletes, managing daily program operations, fostering academic success, promoting a culture of excellence, and ensuring compliance with all University, NCAA, and conference regulations.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student-athlete development, competitive success, community engagement, fundraising, and the NCAA Division II philosophy.

Responsibilities:

Program Leadership and Coaching

  • Design and implement effective practice plans and conduct daily training sessions.

  • Direct all aspects of the women's rowing program, including planning, organization, recruiting, and evaluation.

  • Develop competitive strategies and prepare student-athletes for competition.

  • Provide instruction in fundamental and advanced rowing techniques, tactics, and philosophy.

  • Mentor student-athletes in leadership, life skills, personal development, and preparation for life after athletics.

Recruitment and Student-Athlete Development

  • Actively recruit and retain qualified student-athletes who demonstrate academic and athletic potential and interest in the University's academic programs.

  • Monitor and support the academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes.

  • Foster a positive team culture focused on academic achievement, sportsmanship, and personal growth.

Program Administration

  • Manage all operational aspects of the rowing program, including:

    • Scheduling competitions and team activities.

    • Coordinating team travel, lodging, transportation, and meals.

    • Managing equipment, uniforms, and facility usage.

    • Supervising assistant coaches, student workers, and support staff.

    • Developing and administering the program budget in accordance with University policies.

    • Assist with organizing and hosting rowing competitions and events.

    • Collaborating with Athletics Communications to maintain statistics, records, and program visibility.

    • Working closely with Sports Medicine, Health Services, and team physicians to promote student-athlete health and safety.

Compliance and University Engagement

  • Ensure compliance with all NCAA, Sunshine State Conference (SSC), and University rules, regulations, and policies.

  • Represent the University and rowing program at NCAA, SSC, and related meetings and events.

  • Complete all required administrative and compliance responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community stakeholders.

Fundraising and Community Outreach

  • Lead and support fundraising initiatives for the women's rowing program and Athletics Department.

  • Promote the women's rowing program through camps, workshops, community events, and public engagement activities.

  • Collaborate with Athletics Communications to generate media and promotional opportunities.

  • Lead and encourage participation in community service initiatives.

Student-Athlete Experience

  • Actively support and promote the NCAA's "Life in the Balance" strategic positioning platform, embracing the ideals of:

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated coaching experience in rowing at the collegiate, club, or elite level.
  • Strong knowledge of rowing techniques, training methodologies, and competitive strategies.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Proven ability to recruit and develop student-athletes.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets, schedules, travel logistics, and program operations.
  • Commitment to supporting the academic success and personal development of student-athletes.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Collegiate head coaching experience.
  • Experience with fundraising, alumni relations, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting and retaining student-athletes.
  • Experience supervising coaching staff and support personnel.
  • Strong understanding of NCAA Division II athletics and the student-athlete experience.
