Description Plans, implements, directs and evaluates daily activities of Social Work, Child Life, Language Services and Pastoral Care. Facilitates the development, implementation, and reporting and on-going enhancement Social Work, Child Life, Pastoral Care and Interpreter services. Supports interdisciplinary as well as interdepartmental collaborative practice. Manages departmental budget. Fosters positive and professional interpersonal relationships with patients/families, physicians, hospital staff, community agency representatives and visitors.
Qualifications Minimum Education
Master's Degree Social Work degree (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
7 years Related and progressive experience (Required)
3 years Supervisory experience (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Familiarity with software such as Windows environment (i.e., Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access).
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of children's health issues.
Knowledge of cultural issues and their impact on health care.

Functional Accountabilities
Ensures Delivery of effective psychosocial services to patients and families
  • Demonstrates understanding of patient/family needs in a complex healthcare system
  • Works collaboratively with all members of the hospital community to insure that patient care needs are recognized and addressed
  • Recruits, trains, and directs social work, child life, language/ interpreter and pastoral care staffs to appropriately address patient are needs and systems issues
  • Liaisons with other social workers who do not report directly to Family Services Department, i.e., Child Protection, Psychiatry, special Immunology , Genetics
  • Ensures the availability of psychosocial services to families/staff through on-call scheduling
  • Ensures appropriate discharge planning interventions by the social work staff and provides recommendations for improvement as needed.
  • Ensures patient/family access to appropriate interfaith services-including hospital chapel and bereavement resource
Child Life Services Program Development and Implementation
  • Promotes Child Life Services programming throughout the hospital system-including special projects (Star Bright), internship and other staff training opportunities (Employee Orientation, Anesthesiology Lecture, etc.)
  • Oversee the development of services in new arenas-ROC's , CHC's (Community Health Centers)
  • Develops programs to meet identified or emerging needs of patients, families and staff.
  • Advocates for both therapeutic and normalizing activities for patients, families and staff.
  • Collaborates with other departments to define and implement new programs.
  • Identifies programs in the community or in other facilities offering solutions or new directions for CNMC
Language Services Program Development and Implementation
  • Oversees management of language services to ensure availability of adequate staffing and financial resources necessary to provide
  • services.
  • Facilitates development and promotion of language services program to minimize language barriers for patients and families.
  • Promotes access to health care for minority children.
Regulatory Accreditation
  • Facilitates compliance with licensure regulation and accreditation standards as they related to Child Life, Social Work, Language Services and Pastoral Care
  • Manages the Family Services Policy and Procedure Manual to ensure Departmental compliance with new or revised policies
  • Maintains statistical information concerning volume, usage, staffing requirements of social work, child life and language services to meet budgetary and regulatory requirements.
