Overview

The Project Specialist is responsible for providing Risk Management and Quality Management governance and oversight for the Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) Organization of Con Edison. Con Edison is ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certified.

This role will lead the coordination and reporting of Key Risk Indicators and Key Performance Indicators as well as other relevant metrics such as OSHA rates. The Project Specialist will provide expertise and guidance to the risk management and quality management processes and procedures of the EH&S departments (including operations, construction) and subject matter experts.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Provide expertise and guidance to support compliance with the EH&S Risk Management Plan, including risk identification, risk analysis and risk mitigation.
  • Lead the coordination between the EH&S Risk Management process and the Con Edison Enterprise Risk Management process.
  • Oversee compliance for the EH&S Quality Management System including ISO14001 Environmental Quality Management.
  • Provide coordination and reporting of Key Performance Indicators and other relevant metrics such as OSHA rates.
  • Provide analytical, visualization, and reporting support for Key Risk Indicators and lead the creation of the EH&S Annual Risk Report and other formal reports.
  • Become ISO 14001 Lead Auditor certified within one year of employment, serve as the ISO 14001 Lead Auditor for internal audits, lead the scheduling, coordination, and reporting of internal audits, and conduct site visits at Con Edison facilities.
  • Coordinate the scheduling, planning, and completion of external audits, including recertification audits conducted by the third-party registrar.
  • Lead and coordinate the planning efforts for future quality audits, ISO self-assessments and risk management determinations.
  • Implement and lead an EH&S quality review process that includes examining and valuating data, questioning, and synthesizing information to determine the quality system's adequacies, deficiencies and corrective actions.
  • Utilize industry- standard quality tools, standards, and processes.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required by the Organization.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Associate's Degree and 7 years of relevant work experience or
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant work experience
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management, Safety, Engineering, Physical Science, or Biological Science and 5 years of relevant work experience including work experience within EH&S or Enterprise Risk Management
  • Bachelor's Degree in non-technical discipline e.g., Business, Social Sciences, etc. and 6 years of relevant work experience including work experience within EH&S or Enterprise Risk Management
Relevant Work Experience
  • Ability to commit to delivering excellence in the area of EH&S and recognize the critical importance of teamwork, required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Federal, State and Local EHS Regulations for Environmental and Safety concerns (including but not limited to asbestos, lead, natural resources, water discharge management, oil management, hazardous waste, remediation issues, excavations, confined space), preferred.
  • Quality-related certifications and/or training (ISO Lead Auditor; Quality auditor, ISO 9001 or 14001), preferred.
  • Experience with Enterprise Risk Management or Quality Management systems, preferred.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.

  • Ability to work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
  • Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to read small print and symbols
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
  • Must be able to participate in the Companys emergency management processes and storm plans as required.
  • Must have a valid drivers license. The use of personal vehicle to travel to various company and field locations is required.
  • Must be able to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) during field visits.
  • Must be able to attend meetings with large numbers of people 20-30 and be able to effectively interact with them via oral/written presentation.
