The Assistant Branch Manager provides day-to-day support to the Branch Manager with key operational areas of branch operations, profitability, sales growth, budgeting, managing gross margins, operating expenses, safety, customer service, inventory, equipment, building and vehicles, community relations, accounts receivable, and team support and employee relations by performing the following.

  • Champions safety and regulatory compliance by maintaining alignment with OSHA, FDA, EPA, and DOT requirements, and reviewing safety events to prevent future occurrences.
  • Provides guidance and team support by partnering with Human Resources and management to coordinate inclusive recruitment, training, and performance coaching.
  • Champions excellent customer service to ensure all clients receive timely, courteous follow-up and solutions.
  • Advances sales activity by supporting walk-in business and assisting the outside sales team with quotes and leads.
  • Supports operational accuracy across sales-related paperwork, inventory management, and branch shipments.
  • Utilizes monthly dashboards and routing systems to inform daily logistics, business effectiveness, and sound decision-making.
  • Maintains a functional, welcoming facility while supporting the scheduling of preventative maintenance for the branch and the vehicle fleet.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school degree or the equivalent, with one to three years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • One year of prior supervisory and/or demonstrated leadership experience.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, well-organized, and capable of creative problem-solving.

  • Proven service orientation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build consensus, work independently, and contribute as part of a team.

  • Capable of navigating a dynamic, fast-paced environment and demonstrating a high level of competence in organizing and prioritizing multiple priorities and assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ideally, one to three years of experience in an industrial retail, inside sales, customer service, and/or inventory control-related position; or equivalent years of experience and successful completion of the Airgas Branch Management Trainee program.

  • Basic product knowledge of welding, safety, gases, and hardgood supplies is recommended (or a readiness to learn).

  • SAP or similar software system experience.

  • Intermediate computer skills operating within a Google Platform environment.
