Job Summary

As a Certified Surgical Technologist at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, you'll play a key role in supporting safe, efficient surgical care. Working closely with surgeons, nurses, and the perioperative team, you'll help prepare the operating room, maintain sterile technique, and ensure every procedure runs smoothly for the patients we serve.
This role includes direct patient care.
What You'll Do
*Prepare the operating room for upcoming procedures
*Set up sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment
*Pass instruments and supplies to the surgical team during procedures
*Maintain strict sterile technique and proper instrument handling
*Perform counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments
*Collaborate with the full surgical team, including surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, etc
*Assist with prepping the surgical site, including draping and sterile solutions

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education

* High School Diploma or equivalent required

Licenses & Certifications

* Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification through HSPA preferred

* Additional sterile processing certifications may be considered

Experience

* Previous Sterile Processing experience preferred

* Experience working in a healthcare, surgical, or central sterile environment is beneficial

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Knowledge of sterilization, decontamination, and infection prevention practices

* Understanding of regulatory standards related to sterile processing and materials management

* Ability to inspect, test, evaluate, and troubleshoot instruments and equipment

* Experience with case cart assembly and surgical tray preparation

* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

* Excellent organizational and communication skills

* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Work Environment

This is a fast-paced, team-oriented healthcare environment where attention to detail, precision, and collaboration are essential to supporting safe surgical care and positive patient outcomes.

Physical Requirements

* Frequent standing and walking throughout the workday

* Regular lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of equipment and supplies, including loads exceeding 35 pounds with assistance

* Frequent reaching, handling, fingering, stooping, kneeling, and crouching

* Requires consistent visual acuity and auditory awareness to safely perform job duties
