Overview

Are you an experienced Management Liability claims professional who enjoys analyzing complex coverage issues, managing litigation, and driving thoughtful claim resolutions? Selective Insurance is seeking aManagement Liability Complex Claims Specialistto manage a portfolio of Directors & Officers (D&O), Employment Practices Liability (EPL), and Fiduciary Liability claims. This is a remote position.

In this role, you will manage claims from initial coverage analysis through investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution. You will work closely with insureds, defense counsel, and internal business partners to develop claim strategies, manage litigation activity and budgets, evaluate exposure, and pursue appropriate claim outcomes while considering the impact to both the customer and the company.

You will collaborate with Claims, Underwriting, insureds, and defense counsel on significant matters and emerging issues.

Our Company and Claims organization embrace technology and practical process improvements that support effective claim handling and collaboration. While this is a remote role, you will remain actively connected to the team through regular communication, knowledge sharing, and shared problem-solving.

Travel to mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, trials, training, or other proceedings may be required, up to approximately 10% of the time.


Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of complex Directors & Officers, Employment Practices Liability, and Fiduciary Liability claims from initial coverage analysis through resolution.
  • Evaluate and resolve coverage issues in accordance with applicable policy terms, company policies and procedures, and delegated authority.
  • Conduct thorough claim investigations through telephone contact, written correspondence, and, when appropriate, direct interaction with claimants, attorneys, insureds, witnesses, and other relevant parties.
  • Analyze claim information to assess coverage, liability, damages, litigation posture, and potential exposure to the insured and company.
  • Develop and execute claim-resolution strategies, including negotiation and disposition of claims within delegated authority.
  • Manage defense counsel and litigation activity, including case strategy, budgets, reporting, and significant litigation events.
  • Present significant claims and claim trends to Claims and Underwriting leadership, including coverage considerations, liability assessment, litigation activity, and potential exposure.
  • Provide required reporting to Claims, Underwriting, Reinsurance, and Actuarial business partners for significant-exposure matters.
  • Provide timely reporting on matters proceeding to trial and attend portions of trials when warranted or requested by management.
  • Ensure appropriate referrals, notifications, and timely updates to reinsurers.
  • Contribute technical expertise, training, development, and thought leadership as requested.
  • Perform all responsibilities in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, company policies and procedures, and delegated authority.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements

  • Superior communication skills and strategic negotiation and claim disposition skills along with proven problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Moderate proficiency with standard business-related software (including Microsoft Outlook, Work Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Sufficient keyboarding proficiency to enter data accurately and efficiently.
  • Must have valid state-issued driver's license in good standing and be able to drive an automobile

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or Master of Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
  • Eight or more years of claims-handling experience involving primary, duty-to-defend policies.
  • Significant experience handling Directors & Officers, Employment Practices Liability, and Fiduciary Liability claims for a primary property and casualty insurer.
  • Demonstrated experience in coverage analysis, claim evaluation, litigation management, negotiation, and complex claim resolution.
  • Strong communication, presentation, strategic negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to assess complex exposures, apply sound judgment, and communicate claim strategy clearly to a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with insureds, defense counsel, underwriting partners, reinsurers, internal business partners, and leadership.
  • Proficiency with standard business software, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to enter claim data accurately and efficiently.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license in good standing and ability to drive an automobile.
