Injection Molding Mold Setter I - Night Shift (3:00 PM - 11:00 PM) $29.00/hr. + $1.00/hr. Shift Differential

Who We are Looking For:

We are currently searching for Injection Molding Mold Setter I to be part of the Atkore Electrical Business Unit / Plastic Pipe & Conduit (PPC) Strategic Business Unit. Reporting to Molding Production Manager, the primary focus of this role is safely installing and removing molds from injection molding machine and performing tooling health check to ensure that machines are always producing high-quality plastic parts.

The ideal candidate will have minimum of two (2) years of experience in mold changeovers of thermoplastics injection molding machines with minimum of high school degree or GED equivalent.

What you'll do:



  • Maintenance and Setting of Injection Molds


    • Perform preventative maintenance on mold tooling to keep molds in good operating condition and extend the tool's lifetime.
    • Operate gantry crane and powered industrial trucks to move and store molds as well as perform mold changeovers, inserts changes, and general assembly.
    • Complete changeovers for molds and injection molding machines of various sizes, including proper connection of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic auxiliaries.
    • Support molding process technician with the startup and processing in of a mold on an injection molding machine during changeovers.
    • Program and use robotics and all auxiliary equipment, including part pick-and-place sequences.
    • Measure dimensions to recommend solutions to mold damage issues and compare sizing to existing part designs.
    • As directed by management, work with shipping team to send and receive molds and components for repair.
    • Organize molds, components, and equipment in tooling area to maintain 5S standards to ensure efficient changeovers.
    • Follow production schedule to ensure molds are machine ready prior to production run, including testing of mechanical and hydraulic functions.
    • Support maintenance team with AM & PM of injection molding machine & periodic small repairs of machine & auxiliary equipment as instructed.
    • Demonstrate and maintain safe practices in working with heavy objects like injection molds weighing up to 10,000 pounds and injection molding machinery with capacity up to 1,000 tons.
    • Change filters on chiller periodically and document them on the chiller filter changeover log.
    • Maintain clean working area (both tooling and machine) by removing purge and scrap materials and organizing toolbox pertinent to each machine and mold.
    • Maintain inventory of mold and machine changeover components, such as knock out rods, nozzle tips, nozzle gage, nozzle extensions, part inserts, O-rings, ejector pins, platen bolt, water hoses, quick connects, eye bolts, and mold clamps.
    • Verify any process variations due to changeovers with molding process technician. Record lessons learned from it so that process consistency will be resumed. if the process matches the process parameters that was established.


  • Tooling Document Preparation and Reporting


    • Complete documentation of machine processing changes, mold water diagrams, and auxiliary equipment connections.
    • Support molding tooling technician to perform tool inspections, report and escalate tool health and tool status findings to molding process technician and engineering for prompt repair/overhaul.
    • Initiate and submit mold change checklists to molding process tech & engineering to confirm successful changeover for production.
    • Verify machine-mold compatibility prior to performing changeovers.
    • Complete daily inspections of chilled water system and gantry crane.
    • Manage flow of raw materials into and finished goods out of production area.
    • Start up, shut down, and perform purging of injection molding machines under the supervision of process technician.
    • Perform basic plastic processing under the supervision of molding process technician during changeovers.



What You'll Bring:




      • Minimum high school graduate or GED equivalent.
      • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience working with tooling for thermoplastic injection molding, mold changeovers, and machine startup. 2+ years related experience is preferred.
      • Ability to understand and implement technical documents, drawings, standard documents, tool, and auxiliary equipment manuals
      • Ability to perform precision measurements of tooling components and production parts.
      • Ability to work cross-functionally with tool technician, molding process technician, and maintenance as directed by engineering
      • Medical and automotive mold setter experience is a plus.
      • Strong attention to detail with mechanical aptitude.
      • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

    As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $29.00/hour. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
