Summary:

TheDirector Executive Recruitment oversees the recruitment team responsible forsenior leadership positions for UNC Health. This role will be a key member ofthe Talent Acquisition Leadership Team and will design, develop, and implementa comprehensive, innovative executive recruiting function.TheDirector Executive Recruitment has end-to-end stewardship of leadershiprecruitment (directly VP and above, and strategic oversight for ExecutiveDirector and AVP recruitment) advising on search strategy, proactivelydeveloping talent pipelines, and delivering a high-touch, best-in-classcandidate and hiring leader experience. This position will manage a portfolioof executive-level searches (VP and above) from initial briefings throughinterviews and offers, and oversee recruitment for other senior-levelpositions, with a strong focus on direct sourcing strategies while optimizingthe use of external search firms for niche or hard-to-fill roles.Theindividual will have strong business acumen, intellect, judgment, and advisoryskills, and will serve as a trusted consultant to senior executives, providingmarket insights on candidate strengths, motivations, and development needs. TheDirector is responsible for ensuring both active and passive executive talentis sourced through a variety of research-driven and relationship-basedtechniques to build sustainable talent pipelines aligned to immediate hiringneeds and long-term succession planning.This roleensures an exceptional candidate experience across all stages of the selectionprocess and delivering outcomes that positively impact cost efficiency, qualityof hire, retention, and time-to-fill for critical leadership roles.

Responsibilities:

  1. Executive Talent Acquisition Strategy: Develops forward-thinking, innovative talent acquisition strategies to meet executive hiring needs. Interprets business requirements and translates them into effective recruitment solutions. Provides an executive search-grade experience and serves as a strategic talent advisor, reducing dependency on external partners. Articulates a compelling value proposition to executive candidates and ensures recruitment strategies incorporate internal mobility, external market engagement, and diversity-focused sourcing approaches.
  2. Recruitment Operations: Accountable for the executive recruitment program, including interview planning, offer negotiation, onboarding, and selective engagement of external executive search firms. Manages the full life-cycle and leads the executive Talent Acquisition team for Director-level (System Enterprise Services) and above searches, while providing strategic guidance for other leadership hiring as needed. Develops and implements sourcing and recruitment plans and ensures consistent, proactive communication to maintain momentum and transparency throughout the hiring process. Builds and delivers a distinctive, high-quality candidate experience tailored to executive-level talent. Interprets business and HR metrics critical to driving outcomes and ensures recommendations and deliverables align with organizational priorities. Leads continuous improvement efforts to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and overall impact of the executive recruiting function.
  3. Networking & Sourcing: Builds and maintains a strong pipeline of executive talent, including passive candidates, through proactive market engagement and relationship-building. Identifies, attracts, and presents diverse, high-caliber talent using deep knowledge of the market and research-driven sourcing strategies. Develops and leverages networks across industry contacts, professional associations, and executive leaders to support talent identification. Leads market mapping, benchmarking, and competitive intelligence efforts to anticipate future talent needs. Utilizes digital, social, and professional platforms to identify and engage candidates and ensures a structured, research-based approach to executive sourcing.
  4. Stakeholder Management: Develops strong, collaborative relationships with executives, HR leaders, and team members, ensuring proactive, transparent communication throughout the executive recruitment lifecycle. Provides consultative, high-touch experience for senior leaders, offering market intelligence and insights into candidate capabilities and motivations. Prepares hiring managers and interview teams to align on role expectations and selection criteria and effectively influences internal stakeholders to support informed hiring decisions. Builds and maintains strategic relationships with external search partners and community organizations to enhance talent pipelines and strengthen UNC Health's employer brand. Clearly defines and communicates processes, roles, and expectations while ensuring an exceptional experience for both clients and candidates. Leads candidates through the recruiting process in a way that delivers a consistent, best-in-class experience.
  5. Offer Negotiation: Provides comprehensive offer analysis and partners with HR and Executive Compensation to develop and negotiate competitive executive compensation packages. Leads complex, strategic offer negotiations and ensures clear communication of UNC Health's total rewards value proposition to executive candidates.
  6. Executive Search Firm Management: Determines when to engage external search firms based on role complexity and market conditions. Establishes a structured process for firm selection and performance management. Maintains a preferred network of high-performing firms and partners with Supply Chain to benchmark and evaluate best-in-class executive search providers. Develops and sustains strategic partnerships with a select group of external firms to support current and future hiring needs.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:
  • No licensure requirements.
Professional Experience Requirements:
  • Requires seven (7) years of experience in full-cycle recruitment with at least two (2) years of talent acquisition experience managing full life-cycle executive recruitment.
  • Requires three (3) years of leadership experience.
  • Highly desired prior background in a client-facing search firm or recruitment agency environment. Must possess a consultative, search-firm mindset with demonstrated experience driving end-to-end recruitment strategies for external clients or stakeholders.
  • If corporate in-house executive recruitment experience, experience working in tandem with external executive recruitment agencies with results in assessing the performance and effectiveness of their services.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Proficiency with candidate tracking systems, CRMs, candidate databases and search platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of executive compensation, including, but not limited to, short and long-term incentive plans, employee benefits programs, relocation programs.
  • Immaculate attention to detail and a keen eye towards visual presentation of work product; excellent presentation skills. Organizational skills, ability to prioritize.
  • Strong knowledge of candidate assessment and selection methods.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a network of internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives, HR leaders, executive search vendors and senior level candidates.
  • Must possess strong executive presence.
  • Ability to influence and advise senior executives and manage senior-level relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; executive presence, negotiation and credibility.
  • Strong negotiation, with the proven ability to 'close' complex offers.
  • Ability to learn market and competitive changes quickly, best-in-class search process, including candidate research and outreach techniques.
  • Ability to develop and lead search strategy on multiple executive searches, proactive pipeline development, and strong service delivery.
  • High degree of professional maturity and integrity in handling confidential information.
