Summary
The Production Lead reports to the Sr. Director of Operations and is responsible for inspiring a production shift or area team. They perform hands-on production work that could include saw, machining, metal pulling/finishing, forming, welding, inspection and/or material handling. They ensure safety, quality, on-time delivery and efficiency of their team. Continuous improvement, pursuit of acquiring and training SMART cards (or team skills) and strong communication are also critical skills. He/she passionately supports manufacturing and the concept that making things is "COOL" and STEM education within GenMet and the broader community.
Duties and responsibilities
- Lead, model and promote a culture of honesty, integrity, teamwork, responsibility, adaptability and continuous learning and improvement with the highest ethics
- Manage a highly safe, healthy, organized and clean work environment
- Monitor safe work habits and conditions and resolve any issues identified to ensure production team safety. Direct team in your area to stop unsafe practices. Report issues as necessary.
- Ensure team members adhere to company policies and procedures with respect to safety (i.e. wearing safety glasses, steel to shoes, long pants, hearing protection, machine operation safety etc.)
- Ensure quality part production
- Monitor quality of parts being fabricated within areas of responsibility - review all Non-Conformances (NCs), Corrective Actions (CAs) pertaining to your areas of responsibility and resolve with team in a timely manner.
- Ensure ISO processes are followed
- Become "certified" to perform QAS inspection in all areas (initially, minimally in your area of responsibility).
- Ensure machine preventative maintenance is being performed and recorded in written reports as necessary by your team members. Report items that require repair to the maintenance department and ensure follow-up to complete required actions.
- In conjunction with Engineering develop checking fixtures and other tools to "foolproof" fabrication of parts.
- Pursue 95% on-time delivery
- Assist in the scheduling and performance of daily work and reduce the duration of time parts are in your area.
- Communicate work and priorities to your team daily.
- Ensure accurate labor reporting within area.
- Maximize team member efficiency to best ensure actual time used to perform an operation meets the estimated time in the job routing.
- Identify and pursue ways to minimize Indirect labor time and maximize direct labor activities.
- Support Yellow Sheets (or continuous improvement)
- Support team members to submit 10 Yellow Sheets per team member annually, support timely completion
- Ensure lessons are learned from both exceptionally well executed production jobs as well as poorly executed ones.
- Ensure Lean and 5S Manufacturing processes are identified, implemented and followed.
- Encourage SMART card training
- Ensure team members are qualified to perform assigned work based on the Skills Matrix.
- Assist in development and implementation of training plans.
- Ensure strong communication on shift or area and between other shifts and areas
- Support compliance with ISO9001, ITAR, OSHA, DNR and other applicable standards and Non-Disclosure Agreements
Qualifications
- Trusted and respected GenMet team member or external candidate with a strong referral who models GenMet culture
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a metal fabrication environment with the ability and desire to pursue training for themselves and in turn train other team members
- Effectively communicates to gather information, ask questions, make recommendations, explain decisions and act
- Critical thinking, organized, attention to detail and self-directed to complete tasks timely
- Effectively uses Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, JobBOSS, experience and uses Microsoft Office (Outlook)

Must be able to safely and successfully perform the job functions
Must be able to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally life up to 40 Lbs
