Position Overview: The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing the full payroll process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery while resolving complex payroll issues and supporting audits for US, Canada and UK payrolls. This role partners with HR and leadership to drive process improvements, provide expert guidance on payroll practices, and support system enhancements and compliance initiatives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):
- Manages and delivers end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring alignment with applicable legislation and internal standards across multiple countries.
- Analyzes and reconciles payroll data, including items such as garnishments, benefit deductions, taxable perks, incentive compensation, bonuses, and other adjustments.
- Investigates and resolves complex payroll issues, including escalated employee inquiries and discrepancies.
- Works closely with third-party providers to support payroll tax filings and compliance, and contributes to audit responses at the federal, state, and local levels.
- Collaborates with HR and leadership to identify and implement process enhancements, system improvements, and compliance initiatives.
- Acts as a key resource for payroll and timekeeping systems, maintaining in-depth knowledge and resolving system-related challenges.
- Delivers training and support to internal stakeholders to promote accuracy and consistency in payroll processes.
- Provides guidance to HR and leadership on compensation practices, compliance requirements, and evolving regulations.
- Contributes to payroll-focused projects such as process optimization, system transitions, and automation efforts.
- Supports the development and rollout of payroll best practices in line with company policies and industry benchmarks.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred; Associate degree with equivalent senior-level payroll experience considered;
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive payroll experience with a minimum of 2-3 years dedicated to international/global payrolls;
- Strong understanding of cross-border tax implications, statutory benefits, and global payroll governance;
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Proficient with payroll software; Workday experience is preferred;
- Demonstrates a high level of discretion and professionalism when managing confidential information, including sensitive data, reports, and communications;
- Ability to maintain accuracy, meet deadlines, detail oriented, organized and able to prioritize effectively.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software;
- Must be able to read, write, understand and carry out instructions in English;
Certifications/Licenses:
- CPP or GPMI certifications preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities, but will serve as a trusted mentor and subject matter guide to peers and junior team members.
Work Environment:
- Indoor office environment with the potential of remaining seated for extended periods of time;
- Continuous use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse.
Physical Demands:
- Position may require the ability to carry, push, pull, and lift up to 25 pounds;
- Must operate office equipment as needed.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- This is a full-time position with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week.
Travel:
- No travel is anticipated in this position.
