Description
Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities and Safety the Maintenance Technician / Mailroom Clerk performs a variety of non-supervisory duties related to mailroom operations, facility maintenance, and safety response. This position supports the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of Fenway Health facilities, assists in addressing safety and security concerns, and ensures timely handling and distribution of mail and supplies. All duties are performed in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions. Standard Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Schedule subject to change in accordance with operational needs and collective bargaining agreement provisions Essential Duties and Responsibilities Mailroom Operations
- Sorts, distributes, and delivers incoming mail and packages to appropriate departments and personnel
- Prepares, meters, and processes outgoing mail, including delivery to the post office
- Operates and performs minor maintenance on postage equipment
- Maintains courier systems, including distribution and collection of courier bags
- Ensures timely and accurate internal mail delivery across all sites
Maintenance and Repair
- Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs, including basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry work, consistent with classification level
- Assists in maintaining buildings and grounds in a safe, clean, and orderly condition
- Performs painting and general upkeep duties as assigned
- Identifies maintenance issues and reports conditions requiring higher-level repair or outside vendor services
- Assists and works alongside outside contractors as directed
- May be required to perform janitorial and custodial duties, as needed, consistent with operational needs and bargaining unit scope
Safety, Security, and Emergency Response
- Responds to facility-related safety and security issues as they arise, consistent with training
- Serves as an initial responder to building-related emergencies, including but not limited to equipment failures, environmental hazards, and urgent facility issues
- Assists in responding to patient (PT) and staff safety concerns
- Coordinates and works in conjunction with external emergency responders (e.g., fire, police, EMS) as directed
- Reports all incidents in accordance with organizational policies and procedures
Work Order Management
- Receives, prioritizes, and performs assigned work orders in a timely manner, consistent with job classification
- Utilize work order management system/software to open, update, track, and close work orders
- Maintains accurate and complete documentation of work performed
- Communicates status updates and completion of tasks to appropriate personnel
Supply and Equipment Support
- Stocks and replenishes facility supplies, including custodial, copier, and kitchenette items
- Replaces copier toner and ensures availability of paper and supplies at designated stations
- Maintains inventory levels in supply and storage areas
- Assists with receiving and distributing deliveries
Safety and Compliance
- Adheres to all Fenway Health policies, safety standards, and infection control procedures
- Complies with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as collective bargaining agreement provisions
- Reports unsafe conditions and participates in maintaining a safe work environment
- Maintains patient, staff, and organizational confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency standards
Participation and Work Practices
- Attends required staff meetings, trainings, and in-service programs
- Performs duties in a professional manner consistent with Fenway Health and union workplace standards
- Works cooperatively with co-workers, supervisors, patients, and vendors
- Performs other duties as assigned, consistent with job classification and bargaining unit scope
On-Call Responsibilities
- Participates in an on-call rotation schedule, as required
- Responds to after-hours facility and safety-related issues within established response time expectations
- Provides support for urgent maintenance, safety, or security concerns during on-call periods, consistent with job classification and training
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Working knowledge of at least three of the following trades: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or carpentry
- Basic computer skills required
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions
- Demonstrated ability to perform routine maintenance tasks safely and effectively
- Ability to work independently within established guidelines
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a healthcare or union environment
- DOT HazMat handling knowledge
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and crouch for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to noise, temperature changes, and odors

Salary Description
