Job details

About Us:

The people of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) are united by a singular mission: ending cancer for life. Our specialized care teams provide personalized, compassionate, expert care to patients of all ages. Informed by basic research done at our Sloan Kettering Institute, scientists across MSK collaborate to conduct innovative translational and clinical research that is driving a revolution in our understanding of cancer as a disease and improving the ability to prevent, diagnose, and treat it. MSK is dedicated to training the next generation of scientists and clinicians, who go on to pursueour missionat MSK and around the globe.

Exciting Opportunity at MSK: The Berger Laboratory, affiliated with the Center for Molecular Oncology (CMO) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), is seeking a Computational Biologist to join our interdisciplinary team. Our lab brings together experimental and computational scientists to characterize genetic mutations in human tumors, with the goal of identifying biomarkers of cancer progression and therapeutic response. Leveraging massively parallel next generation DNA and RNA sequencing, we develop and apply cutting edge methods to profile patient derived tumor tissue and circulating tumor DNA.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of novel diagnostic tools while collaborating with experts in computational biology, genomic technologies, molecular pathology, clinical oncology, and radiopharmaceutical therapies.

Role Overview

  • Process, analyze, and interpret next generation sequencing (NGS) data to address key scientific questions in cancer genomics and extract insights related to tumor progression and response to therapy.

  • Develop, pilot, and implement bioinformatics pipelines for analysis of RNA-Seq data from our novel whole-transcriptome clinical test, MSK-TARGET.

  • Analyze and integrate mutational and gene expression data across multiple patient samples and assays to characterize biomarkers of response to oncology treatments including theranostics.

  • Collaborate closely with clinicians, researchers, and investigators to support multidisciplinary research projects.

  • Develop, document, and maintain well annotated, reproducible code following best practices.

  • Prepare scientific reports and summaries for internal use and external publication.

  • Present research findings, analytical approaches, and project updates at lab meetings. As appropriate, present work at external conferences.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related discipline

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing next generation sequencing (NGS) data

  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, R, or equivalent

  • Working knowledge of genomics pipelines and best practices for NGS data analysis

  • Experience using version control systems (e.g., GitHub)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Core Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities

  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within collaborative teams

  • Attention to detail and commitment to reproducible, high quality scientific work

  • Ability to clearly communicate complex analytical results to diverse audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in cancer genomics research

  • Familiarity with DNA and RNA sequencing analysis

  • Understanding of workflow management systems such as Nextflow

Additional Information

  • Schedule: Hybrid, Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours

  • Location: 323 E. 61St Street, NY, NY (Macklowe)

  • Reporting to: Principal Investigator, Berger Laboratory (CMO)
