The UIC Retzky College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice, is seeking a full-time, motivated professional for the position of Clinical Faculty (Open Rank)/Clinical Pharmacist who will be assigned to UI Health's Liver service.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to inpatients on the Liver service, including patients with end-stage liver disease, acute liver injury, and those pre- and post-liver transplantation. The hospital is a 450-bed academic institution located approximately 2 miles west of downtown Chicago. The hospital serves an urban, indigent patient population.

The Retzky College of Pharmacy, with campuses in Chicago and Rockford, is the #1 college of pharmacy in the state of Illinois and #6 in total research grant funding, according to the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). Duties:

The Liver clinical pharmacist is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team in the hospital and clinics. The Clinical Pharmacist's duties include attending daily rounds, medication review and reconciliation, identifying medication-related problems, medication selection and dosing recommendations, TPN management, therapeutic drug monitoring, provision of drug information, patient education, and attending rapid response team calls. The liver clinical pharmacist participates in solid organ transplant immunosuppression management and in the evaluation of patients for candidacy for liver transplant listing. The clinical pharmacist will also be responsible for nurse, physician, and pharmacy staff development; coordinating and conducting quality initiative projects; and developing collaborative treatment and research protocols.

The academic responsibilities of the clinical faculty member (Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) include the provision of didactic lectures and precepting entry-level Doctor of Pharmacy students, PGY1 residents, and PGY2 residents. Scholarly activities, including presentations and publications, are an expectation as well. Academic rank commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:
  • PharmD and PGY1 residency experience required.
  • PGY2 residency in solid organ transplantation required (or equivalent experience).
  • Candidates must present evidence of, or eligibility for, Illinois licensure as a professional pharmacist at time of employment.
  • Highly preferred: strong clinical knowledge base; analytical and problem-solving skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to consistently meet deadlines; demonstrate flexibility and ability to work independently and adapt to a changing work environment; excellent planning, time management and organizational skills. Board certification is highly recommended.
