Position Summary

This position is responsible for the organization and oversight of a comprehensive student affairs program for the students at UICOMP. The Assistant Dean functions as a primary student advocate in responding directly to the student needs in providing resources to assist them during the course of their education at UICOMP. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and supervises the Academic Advising and Learning Specialist student support.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Administrative responsibilities for comprehensive offerings for the Student Affairs program and matters pertaining to the general welfare of students.
  • Supports the academic advisors in the preparation and coordination of reports for the Peoria Campus Review Subcommittee
  • Oversees student affairs budget and allocation of funds to support student services and activities
  • Serves as an advocate for student concerns in working with faculty, staff and administration. Provides cultural, social, and wellbeing programming for students.
  • Provides for student health services and delegation of oversight of student health compliance records. This includes contracting with healthcare providers and serving as liaison to Student Health and Insurance programs.
  • Facilitates access to counseling resources for personal and academic concerns. This includes utilizing faculty resources and the development of new resources as needed. Provides counseling for professional growth, and career development in collaboration with faculty and staff.
  • Responsible for the activities related to preparation for postgraduate education including career advising and preparation of Medical Student Performance Evaluations.
  • Participates in various committees responsible for monitoring student progress through all years of medical school training.
  • Oversees coordination of orientation programs for prospective and incoming students. Collaborates with the admission staff for pre-matriculation activities Knowledgeable about medical school admissions requirements and is available to counsel premedical students.
  • Administers awards and scholarship programs for the campus and serves as liaison to College and University Financial Aid, Scholarship, and Financial Services offices.
  • Provides administrative support to the Committee on Student Awards and Scholarships.
  • Directs students to resources, policies and procedures related to ADA rules and provides guidance to students as needed.
  • Advises student government and coordinates activities of other recognized student organizations and student programs.
  • Serves as liaison and communicates student related concerns to the appropriate administrative officers of the College of Medicine, hospitals, and community organizations.
  • Oversees verification and certification of credentials for graduates of the campus program.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Either an MD, DO or equivalent OR a PhD or EdD in Education, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Clinical Psychology or College Student Personnel
  • Experience in student affairs in higher education or MD/DO in academic medicine required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in learner learning support and career development/advising

The budgeted salary range for the position is $140,000 to $240,000 per year.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
