ARES Corporation is seeking a Mid-career Systems Engineer and Configuration/Data Management (CDM) professional knowledgeable in performing the configuration and data management functions sought for the Space Launch System (SLS) Program at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). This full-time position will perform configuration and data management functions utilizing Windchill, Configuration Accounting Status tools, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office products. The position requires operational knowledge in all five functions of Configuration Management: Planning, Identification, Change Management, Status Accounting and Audits/Verification. The position requires flexibility to cover various functions including Control Board facilitation, Change Management processing, CSA reporting, and auditing. The successful candidate will be able to take a proactive approach in working with existing CDM personnel to manage required processes with particular focus on electronic processes using existing tools. This position will support MSFC and SLS efforts to move into a model-based engineering, digital thread environment. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interface across the Space Launch System (SLS) Program, Element Offices, and external partners/contractors to support Configuration Management (CM) and Data Management (DM) functions.
- Support and facilitate the change management / control board process, including Secretariat responsibilities (e.g., coordination, documentation, and execution support).
- Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure technical products, data packages, and presentations are complete, compliant, and ready for control board or review activities.
- Track, manage, and support closure of actions, decisions, deliverables, and follow-on activities associated with boards and program reviews.
- Review and ensure compliance of technical data, presentation materials, and records with CM/DM standards and governance requirements.
- Manage and maintain official records and data environments, including data storage, archival, and controlled access (e.g., Windchill or similar systems).
- Perform and support Configuration Status Accounting (CSA) and broader data tracking, reporting, and visibility functions.
- Support data management lifecycle activities, including data package development, receipt, validation, tracking, and distribution.
- Develop, maintain, and improve process documentation, work instructions, and workflows related to CM/DM and Board Secretariat functions.
- Identify, recommend, and help implement process improvements to enhance CM/DM efficiency, tools, and governance processes.
Ensure proper handling and compliance for controlled data (e.g., CUI, ITAR, proprietary Job Specifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 11 years experience; or 14+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
- U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain clearance and access to NASA MSFC required.
- Strong working knowledge of Configuration and Data Management (CDM) principles, including configuration control, data governance, and baseline management within digital/database environments.
- Demonstrated experience using enterprise CDM and collaboration tools such as Windchill (ICE), SharePoint, and Configuration Status Accounting (CSA) / change management systems (e.g., Jira, Access, or equivalent).
- Proven experience supporting configuration data management, requirements traceability, and CSA functions within structured data environments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to support documentation, reporting, and data analysis activities.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational, analytical, and follow-through skills, with the ability to perform effectively in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams to achieve program objectives and support integrated program activities.
- Experience managing and safeguarding controlled and sensitive data, including Proprietary, Limited Rights, CUI, ITAR, and EAR-regulated information, in compliance with applicable requirements.
- Industry certifications in CDM or related fields (e.g., NDIA CDM Specialist/Manager) are preferred.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to obtain clearance/access onsite at NASA MSFC required (requires a STAR ID for badging).
- Position requires regular on-site support at NASA MSFC; remote work is not the primary mode of execution.
