Job Summary:

In a career as a Radiology Nurse, you join us in providing life-changing care to patients from across the region. In this role, you will Provides patient care before, during, and after radiologic procedures, including X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds, and interventional procedures.

Schedule: On-Call

Locations: West Hospital
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  • In collaboration with other members of the health care team, the nurse uses the nursing process to complete the physical, cognitive, spiritual and psychosocial assessment of patients.
  • Evaluates patients' health status, monitoring vital signs, and observing reactions during procedures.
  • Preparing patients for imaging or interventional procedures, explaining procedures, and providing post-procedure care instructions.
  • Starts IV lines, enters medication orders, and administer medications for imaging or interventional procedures as per established imaging protocols and/or physician orders.
  • Ensures the Time Out procedure that verifies the correct patient and the correct procedures is being performed.
  • Assists in positioning and responding to comfort/safety of the patient.
  • Assists in imaging or interventional procedures (arthrograms, steroid injections, VCUG, etc).
  • Escalates concerns of patient status changes to the appropriate provider. Activates the patient emergency response process when needed.
  • Adheres to radiation safety measures to protect both the patient and the staff.
  • Documents patient history, patient care, and treatment plans in patient record. Utilizes downtime procedures when needed.
  • In collaboration with other members of the health care team, the nurse uses the nursing process to assess patient/family understanding and response to care provided; and patient/family educational needs. The nurse redirects care as needed.
  • Maintains "The Joint Commission" standards on an ongoing basis and assists in department responsibilities for readiness for Joint Commission visits.
  • Participates in department performance improvement activities.
  • Serves on hospital or system committees as assigned.
  • Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Registered nurse who is a graduate of an accredited school with a current state license required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in an acute hospital setting and pediatric experience required.
  • CPR (BLS) certification required.
  • ACLS certification within 6 months of transfer or hire required.
  • PALS certification within 6 months of transfer or hire required.
  • Prior working knowledge of using computer programs and electronic medical records required.
  • On-call (continuously or rotationally) to provide support required.
  • Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
