Niner Finance's mission is to engage and develop the financial literacy and well-being of the student, faculty, staff, and community population of Charlotte. Through an asset-based, affective domain of learning approach, Niner Finances works to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to make more informed financial decisions while also developing the habits, motivations, and behavioral outcomes that help to build financial resiliency and capability across the lifetime of the students we serve. |
| Primary Purpose of Position |
The Assistant Director for Financial Literacy will engage in the success of the Niner Finances Peer Program, contributing to the success of student employees, called Financial Wellness Coaches. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for campus-wide programmatic efforts, and will provide one-on-one financial literacy counseling and coaching with the goal of increasing student efficacy in making sound financial decisions by increasing students' knowledge and understanding of financial literacy concepts. The Assistant Director for Financial Literacy will assist in maintaining, developing and deploying programming collaborations with academic colleges, and other campus departments and creating new partnerships not already in progress. The Assistant Director for Financial Literacy will also handle highly confidential information. The Assistant Director for Financial Literacy will assist and support students in navigating the financial complexities related to higher education and professional lives. |
| Summary of Position Responsibilities |
- The Assistant Director for Financial Literacy (AD) reports directly to the Director of Financial Literacy in Niner Finances. The AD will assist in the implementation and ongoing management of a comprehensive student Financial Literacy Program.
- The AD will operate within and deliver programming efforts to include online learning, workshops and presentations, one-on-one education, and coaching/counseling for students across the student life cycle from orientation to degree completion.
- The AD will interface with faculty, administrators, staff, students, parents, and community members.
- The AD will collaborate with campus partners to promote financial wellness for students around the issues of financial literacy.
- The AD will be responsible for creative programming to reach targeted student populations in response to periodic student surveys.
- The AD will recruit and supervise student leaders within the department
- The AD is responsible for maintaining spreadsheets that track appointments, incentive distributions, and student participation and outcomes for programs such as VITA and Rainy Day Savings, as well as monitoring and reporting progress toward departmental goals.

| Minimum Education/Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Education, Counseling/Psychology or related field and minimum of 2 years of experience in either of the following (or combination of the two):
- teaching financial literacy and wellbeing or
- oversight of a Peer Program, student employment, or student leadership development

| Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience |
- Educational and Professional Background: Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Education, Counseling/Psychology or related field and two - three years of post-graduate professional work experience in higher education.
- Financial Literacy Expertise: One - three years of experience in financial literacy/education or financial counseling/coaching, with knowledge of financial literacy issues and standards as well as an understanding of financial aid.
- Student-Centered Approach: Strong communication, listening, coaching, and mentoring skills, with a focus on student support, education and advocacy.
- Program Management Skills: Ability to manage comprehensive financial literacy programs and develop innovative strategies for financial well-being as well as being willing and able to take the initiative to solve problems as they arise.
- Interpersonal and Organizational Skills: Highly organized with the ability to build relationships across campus, handle multiple projects, and exercise good judgment and discretion in analyzing and resolving confidential and sensitive situations with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level, including building and maintaining spreadsheets using formulas, functions, and pivot tables to organize, analyze, and summarize data. Ability to interpret data trends and produce reports for decision-making purposes.
