Role/Department Summary: The Director, Project Management and Construction, will use extensive experience to oversee the planning, design, and construction of a portfolio of projects, from beginning to end. This role supports the Senior Director, Project Management and Construction and/or Senior Vice President of Real Estate, in managing a team of individuals responsible for construction of Boston Children's clinical, research, and supporting projects up to $500 million or more.

Responsibilities:
  • Works directly with the Senior Director of Project Management and Construction and/or Senior Vice President of Real Estate, supporting the development of a portfolio of campus construction projects from conception to completion
  • Coordinates with the Hospitals Safety and Infection Prevention teams to ensure construction operations can be performed to the safety standards of the hospital, while minimizing impacts to patients and families
  • Assists in hiring, directing, and managing architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors. Helps coordinate the execution of all legal documentation
  • Aids in managing the process for all permits and approvals for the project required by city, state, and federal agencies and other governing bodies. Represents the Hospital in negotiations with neighborhood associations and other organizations. Monitors the implementation of projects to ensure conformity with all statutory and regulatory codes and hospital standards
  • Coordinates with Planners, engineering, faculty, staff, and interested parties to obtain input in developing program requirements and establishing project scope, alternate solutions, and priorities
  • Works with project teams to formulate work plans and is responsible for conceptual planning, feasibility studies, and financial planning
  • Inspects and reviews projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes and other regulations
  • Works with Project Managers to prepare cost estimates, budgets, and schedules
  • Monitors progress of project costs and schedule, providing project reports to senior management while ensuring the effective management of resources. Utilizes the hospital reporting system to track progress
  • Assists with the coordination of all major decisions with client representatives assigned to projects. Communicates to all parties associated with the project, status, issues, solutions, and key decisions. Resolves outstanding issues in a timely manner
Education Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's degree and a min of 15 years of experience in designing or managing major construction projects is required. Work experience in a Healthcare or Research Facility is strongly preferred. A Master's degree is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and navigate in a complex, collaborative environment, as well as build effective working relationships and foster a cooperative work environment
  • Ability to solve problems and work effectively to address varying and dynamic priorities, use good judgment and provide exceptional leadership
  • Ability to direct and organize program activities and to establish program goals and objectives that support a strategic plan
  • Skills in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, developing and implementing effective strategies, procedures, and programs
  • Ability to make effective administrative/procedural decisions and judgments

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
