According to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules, performs a variety of routine laboratory experiments and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording and checking results for completeness and accuracy. Assists in troubleshooting procedures if experimental results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor. Performs the following techniques typically required for the laboratory/study: Maintains records of results and methodologies in a log of work performed. Maintains equipment, lab area, and supplies in a neat professional manner. Sterilize and clean glassware, and prepare media and other materials using appropriate procedures. Inventories supplies, alerts supervisor to needed supplies, or mixes standard reagents.

Position Summary
The Fleming laboratory in the Pathology Department is searching for a new motivated team member. The laboratory studies iron metabolism and heme metabolism in normal and pathological rare genetic conditions. The position is open to support ongoing research on new therapeutic approaches to treat heme disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Under immediate supervision, the RA will be trained and perform a variety of laboratory experiments. Importantly, this position requires the new hire to assist in maintaining, generating, and phenotyping genetically modified mouse models for ongoing research projects.
  • In addition to the bench-based research, responsibilities will also include some aspects of laboratory management and organization. Training will be available in all aspects of experimental research. Expectations for this position: 20% laboratory organization and 80 % lab experiments.
  • Representative work of the laboratory: Pubmed PMID 40663422, PMID 38900972 and PMID 30401706
  • Carries out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols.
  • Attends courses, lectures, and conferences to further own knowledge of research and laboratory techniques, consulting with other researchers and technicians to exchange information.
  • Maintains records of results and methodologies in a log of work performed

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • A bachelor's degree in a science-related field
Experience
  • The position is for a fixed term of 2 years.
  • The ideal candidate has a curious mindset, is detail-oriented, is thorough in completing work tasks, and uses logic to solve work-related problems. Good written and verbal communications skills, as well as a team-player spirit, will be favored
  • A general knowledge of basic laboratory techniques and equipment is expected. Previous experience in an academic laboratory setting, such as a summer internship, will be an advantage, but is not required.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
