| Position Summary |
Winston-Salem State University is seeking a Director of Auxiliary Services.
The Director of Auxiliary Services provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for key outsourced auxiliary service programs that enhance campus life and support institutional revenue generation. This role serves as the primary liaison between Winston-Salem State University and its external service providers, ensuring high-quality service delivery, compliance with contractual obligations, and alignment with university priorities.
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Operating Officer, the Director oversees vendor relationships across multiple service areas, including dining services, bookstore operations, parking services, vending, beverage exclusivity agreements, licensing and branding, mail services, transportation services, managed print services (Ricoh), and comprehensive Card Office operations. The position collaborates closely with executive leadership to evaluate auxiliary financial performance and develop rate structures based on service costs, contractual requirements, and institutional goals.
Responsibilities of the Director of Auxiliary Services include:
- Oversee all aspects of campus dining operations, including meal plans, retail dining locations, and catering services
- Ensure high-quality food service, financial sustainability, and alignment with student needs, wellness initiatives, and campus programming
- Monitor vendor performance and contract compliance
- Manage bookstore services, including course materials, retail merchandise, and e-commerce platforms
- Partner with vendors to ensure competitive pricing, product availability, and a positive customer experience
- Supervise vending operations across campus, ensuring accessibility, product variety, and operational reliability
- Provide oversight of parking services operations, including parking enforcement, permit management, transportation coordination, and customer service initiatives
- Collaborate with campus stakeholders to improve parking access, traffic flow, safety initiatives, and transportation services
- Provide strategic oversight of campus transportation services, including shuttle operations, fleet coordination, vendor partnerships, route planning, and customer service initiatives
- Collaborate with campus stakeholders and transportation providers to improve transit accessibility, service efficiency, safety, and overall campus mobility
- Monitor parking services vendor performance, technology systems, and operational efficiency to support campus mobility and revenue goals
- Optimize placement strategies and monitor vendor performance to maximize Administer and enforce beverage partnership agreements
- Ensure compliance while maximizing sponsorship value, marketing opportunities, and campus engagement
- Oversee university licensing initiatives and trademark usage
- Provide oversight of campus mail operations, ensuring efficient processing, distribution, and tracking
- Direct campus print services in partnership with Ricoh
- Ensure cost efficiency, equipment reliability, sustainability, and strong user experience
- Collaborate with IT and campus departments to optimize print services
- Provide strategic oversight of campus card services, including ID issuance, credentialing systems, and account management
- Ensure accurate financial processing and integration with enterprise systems such as Banner and CS Gold
- Promote operational efficiency, data integrity, and customer service excellence
- Maintain student meal plan selections within institutional systems
- Respond to student inquiries and process necessary changes
- Load approved auxiliary rates into applicable systems
- Reconcile vendor invoices with meal plan participation and selection data to ensure accuracy
- Track auxiliary revenue streams and monitor operational performance
- Collaborate with the Deputy Chief Operating Officer to analyze financial data and support auxiliary rate development, including dining rates
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
- Prepare reports, analyses, and recommendations for leadership review
- Monitor managed print spend trends and recommend cost optimization strategies
- Ensure compliance with university policies, procurement standards, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain documentation and readiness for audits and reviews
- Coordinate with Legal, Procurement, Finance, Communications, and Information Technology departments
- Ensure Ricoh services meet contractual SLAs, security standards, and audit requirements
- Participate in auxiliary services strategic planning initiatives
- Identify opportunities for revenue growth, service enhancement, and cost containment
- Benchmark programs against peer institutions and industry best practices
- Evaluate and recommend modernization strategies, including print reduction and digital workflow initiatives
