Job Summary

The Class A CDL Driver is responsible for safely transporting underground utility and construction materials using straight truck flatbeds and semi-truck trailer flatbeds. This role involves local and regional deliveries, loading and unloading materials, maintaining DOT compliance, and supporting warehouse operations as needed. Drivers are expected to provide excellent customer service at delivery sites while ensuring safe and timely deliveries. The position primarily focuses on driving responsibilities with occasional warehouse support duties.

Job Responsibilities



  • Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles including straight truck flatbeds and semi-truck trailer flatbeds
  • Deliver underground utility materials including ductile iron pipe, PVC pipe, fittings, valves, and related materials
  • Transport materials to customer locations within scheduled delivery timelines
  • Load and unload materials using sit-down forklifts and manual handling techniques as needed
  • Assist customers at job sites with unloading materials when required
  • Secure loads properly using straps and other approved load securement methods
  • Verify delivery documentation and obtain customer signatures upon delivery completion
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Ensure compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies
  • Communicate with supervisors throughout the workday regarding delivery status and issues
  • Pick up customer returns and verify returned materials against documentation
  • Fuel vehicles and report maintenance concerns, accidents, violations, or equipment defects promptly
  • Utilize tablets and delivery technology for routing, delivery confirmation, and documentation
  • Support warehouse operations as needed including loading, staging, and material handling activities
  • Maintain a professional appearance and provide excellent customer service at all times
  • Work overtime as needed based on operational demands


Job Requirements



  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required
  • Must hold the required state-issued self-certification designation of non-excepted interstate driving status
  • Minimum of 1 year of Class A CDL driving experience required
  • Must have held a CDL for at least 1 year
  • Experience operating flatbed trucks and trailers preferred
  • Ability to safely operate sit-down forklifts required
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds required
  • Ability to throw straps over materials up to 10 feet high on flatbed trailers required
  • Ability to assist with manual unloading at customer job sites required
  • Ability to use tablets and delivery software for route management and documentation
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and safe driving practices
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage delivery schedules effectively


Work Experience



  • Experience delivering construction, utility, or industrial materials preferred
  • Flatbed delivery experience preferred
  • Warehouse and material handling experience preferred
  • Forklift operating experience preferred


Additional Job Details



  • No overnight travel required
  • Furthest delivery locations are typically within 2 hours one-way
  • Approximately 90% driving and 10% warehouse responsibilities
  • Opportunity for full-time hire based on performance and business needs
