Position Description:
We are seeking an innovative and detail-oriented Senior Financial Planning Analyst to support our Enterprise Service areas within the Financial Planning and Analysis team. This position is focused on expenses and ideal for individuals looking to launch their career in financial analysis within the insurance industry. This role will serve as a critical business partner to leadership, focusing on budgeting, operational efficiency, and performance analysis to enable data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills combined with analytical ability utilizing Excel and the drive for continuous process improvement through technology advancements.
Position Location:
This is a hybrid role working partially in-office (Lincoln, NE) and partially from home.
What you do:
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):
* Partner with back-office teams to develop annual expense budgets, forecasts, and multi-year financial plans aligned with strategic objectives.
* Perform monthly variance analysis of actuals vs. budget/forecast; identify drivers and recommend corrective actions.
* Conduct ad hoc financial analysis to support business initiatives, staffing decisions, and operational improvements.
Operational Finance & Support:
* Support leadership and managers including purchase order tracking, invoice validation, accruals, and spend analysis.
* Coordinate with procurement and accounts payable teams to ensure timely processing and reconciliation of expenses.
* Process monthly corrections including journal entries and determine monthly accruals.
* Maintain accurate financial records and documentation in accordance with internal controls and audit requirements.
Reporting & Insights:
* Prepare and deliver regular financial reports and dashboards for Enterprise Services leadership.
* Provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve cost efficiency and optimize resource allocation.
* Prepare expense related regulatory schedules and exhibits in coordination with the Financial Reporting team.
* Create and support financial reports and model related expenditures utilizing Excel and Power BI.
What you bring:
* Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business or a similar field of study required.
* 1-3 years of experience in financial planning and analysis, financial operations, or business finance required.
* Strong Excel skills; familiarity with data analysis and visualization best practices required.
* Experience with financial planning processes, financial analysis and monthly expense reviews required.
* Experience handling invoice coding, accrual process, and journal entries required.
* Excellent communication and crossfunctional collaboration skills required.
* High attention to detail with strong problemsolving and continuous improvement mindset required.
* Proficiency in Power BI, familiarity with data analysis, dashboard creation and report automation desired.
* Hands-on experience with Oracle Financials (Hyperion SmartView), Oracle ERP/EPB, or similar systems desired.
* Experience within an insurance or financial services organization desired.
