Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Statewide Medical Director located in Trenton, NJ . The Associate Statewide Medical Director, under the direction of the Statewide Medical Director, is responsible for providing medical services to inmates of the Department of Corrections, which are consistent with community standards of care.
Provides overall clinical and teaching responsibilities for University Correctional HealthCare (
UCHC) and directly supervises the
UCHC Medical Providers. Oversees the provision of clinical service at all the sites. Serves as a liaison for clinical matters with medical providers outside the system and is available to provide on-call services and on-site clinical services as may be indicated.
Demonstrates competency in recognizing the unique needs of all inmates/residents, ages 18-65+, and in applying relevant
Duties include:
- Assists the Medical Director in all aspects of the delivery of medical services to ensure access to care andvclinical quality is performed at or above established thresholds.
- Communicates directly with admitting and attending physicians to determine the earliest time when an inmate admitted to the hospital can be transferred to the New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) preferred Hospital and/or return to an infirmary setting within NJDOC.
- Provides direct supervision and direction to Supervising Physicians, to include evaluation, annual performance review, and disciplinary review under the supervision of the Medical Director.

| Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Board-certified in a specialty area in medicine with a preference in certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, with a valid NJ medical license, including current DEA and CDS Certificates.
- Seven (7) years of experience as a Board-Certified Physician.
- Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, as well as the ability to function in a team environment required.
- Demonstrated knowledge is necessary to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment.
- Must be eligible for a faculty appointment at the Rutgers University
- Computer literacy,
- Valid Driver's License. Must possess own vehicle.
