This position is designed as Hybrid (In office and Remote).

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and experience equivalent to three years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas (1) social work, mental health, youth justice, marketing/community relations or educational program work (including managing, consulting or administering the services;) or (2) Grants administration; or resource cultivation/development, public health community education or government affairs; or (3) post-secondary instruction of sociology, social work, early childhood education, related social sciences or criminal or youth justice.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional graduate coursework in one or a combination of the following professional areas may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years: (1) law, criminology, or sociology; (2) public policy and program development; or (3) psychology, public health, community education, social work, or other fields which involve child and family studies.

Substitution of Experience for Education: The equivalence of four years of qualifying full-time professional experience in one or more of the following areas (1) social work, mental health, youth justice, marketing/community relations or educational program work (including managing, consulting or administering the services;) or (2) Grants administration; or resource cultivation/development, public health community education or government affairs; or (3) post-secondary instruction of sociology, social work, early childhood education, related social sciences or criminal or youth justice may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants for this class must be willing to travel locally, regionally and statewide to meet specific job requirements. Valid motor vehicle license required.

Overview

The C&Y Program Coordinator classification is responsible for community development, event organization, monitoring, grant administration, government affairs, research, planning and implementation of children's programs or youth justice programs and related work as required. An employee in this class is responsible for advocacy for children and families including evaluation of policy affecting children and youth in Tennessee. This class differs from the Children's Program Director in that the incumbent of the latter is responsible for supervisory work.

Responsibilities

  1. Develops, coordinates, and maintains regional councils comprised of child advocates or other professionals to facilitate networking, exchange of ideas, advocacy and education on policies and issues affecting children and youth in Tennessee. Supports, encourages and takes steps to strengthen and support child and family focused networks and organizations which have an impact on children and families.
  2. Publicizes and communicates the Commissions viewpoint related to matters and issues impacting children, youth and families. Represents the Commission to the media and at special events related to issues impacting children, youth and families.
  3. Researches and stays up-to-date on issues and challenges impacting children and youth and creates learning opportunities for council members, public officials, and others involved in providing services to children and youth regarding to the needs, laws, and problems impacting children and youth.
  4. Performs grant administration work including reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating grant applications and making recommendations for approval while ensuring compliance with policy. Monitors the distribution of funds, notifies grantees of available grant funds, approves payments that are compliant with grant guidelines, and prepares reports on compliance related to grantees to facilitate continuation of federal juvenile justice funding.
  5. Coordinates and engages in capacity building activities by serving as a consultant for public and private service providers, child advocates, public elected officials, and general public. Provides technical assistance, community building, case management support, crisis assistance, and information.
  6. Serves on advisory boards, task forces and participates in other groups that will or potentially could positively impact the lives of children, youth and families.
  7. Completes administrative responsibilities related to assigned programs, prepares reports and presentations, maintains files and records and various other ad hoc responsibilities. Participates in special projects and assignments as directed.
