About This Role

Academic Advising in APDesign is a partnership between students and academic advisors. Advisors engage students in their educational planning, teach them how to navigate college and university resources, and encourage them to take responsibility for decisions about their academic progress. Additionally, the academic advisor supports the mission of the college and each academic program through providing academic advising and administrative support.


About Us

The College of Architecture, Planning and Design (APDesign) consists of students, faculty and alumni across all disciplines, united by a shared passion for design. We offer a variety of programs in the architecture, community development, design and planning fields. Our programs teach students to collaborate with their peers, constantly try new approaches to problems and redefine the traditional boundaries of design. Our faculty and students are leaders and award-winners, representing APDesign and K-State across the nation.


Worksite Description

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.


What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Requires a bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience. Education beyond the minimum degree requirement may count toward required experience if deemed relevant by the hiring manager. The degree requirement ensures candidates possess the foundational knowledge in educational theory, student development and institutional policy interpretation essential to effective academic advising. These competencies are typically developed and rigorously validated only through the comprehensive curriculum and intensive experiential learning inherent in a formal degree program.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Demonstrated teaching and/or advising experience.
  • The successful candidate will be self-motivated and demonstrate:
    Excellent organizational skills and the ability to make independent decisions, multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines and work with attention to detail with minimal supervision.
    Enthusiasm for a constantly evolving work environment and aptitude for learning new skills.
    Ability to develop and sustain collegial and professional working relationships with diverse groups of individuals and demonstrate strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
    Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and capacity to work with institutional systems.
    Ability to use sound judgment under pressure.
    Enthusiasm for and commitment to student development in rigorous and creative academic programs.
    Enthusiasm for working as part of a team.
