JOB SUMMARY


The Product Development Engineering Supervisor is responsible for supervising the Engineering Production Support (EPS) and Manufacturing Engineering (ME, LI & LII) teams and related processes. These teams create product design drawings and assembly process documentation while supporting manufacturing of cable, electronic assembly, and fiber optic products. Responsible for writing or overseeing creation of documentation which meets AS9100D and IPC/WHMA-A-620, Class 3 requirements. Leads drawing/design review process collaborating with Project/Design Engineering, Production, and Quality teams. Works directly with management, project/design engineers, production, inspection, test, quality, as well as customers to successfully document, build, improve product quality, and utilize lean manufacturing techniques. Supports the TrekConnect leadership team by providing operational input on business strategy and direction.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties as assigned.


Team Supervision & Development



  • Assist in hiring, train, supervise, and mentor/develop personnel in the Engineering Production Support (EPS) and Manufacturing Engineering (ME) teams.
  • Support and implement manufacturing training plans for ME and EPS personnel which include enhancing build competency, lean manufacturing, IPC/WHMA-A-620, AS9100D, J-STD-001, and ISO9001 quality standards to ensure production and assembly activities are optimally executed.


Engineering & Documentation



  • Supervise the activities associated with the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of assembly drawings, manufacturing methods, processes, and operations for new and existing products, while working closely with project/design engineering.
  • Oversee First Article build workflows and guide ME and EPS teams throughout the first article process.


Manufacturing & Tooling Support



  • Troubleshoot assembly problems, test failures, and tooling issues acting in a supporting engineering role for the production floor.
  • Perform design and development of assembly tooling, molding, fixturing, and harness form boards. Validate tooling through measurement and testing.
  • When required, perform physical build of cable assemblies for work instruction development and/or manufacturing improvement initiatives.


Continuous Improvement



  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by applying Lean manufacturing principles -- including 5S, standard work, value stream mapping, and waste elimination -- to engineering and production processes, targeting measurable gains in quality, efficiency, and delivery performance.
  • Partner with Quality and Production departments to identify process gaps, lead root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) that reduce defects, eliminate rework, and improve first-pass yield.
  • Participate in and facilitate cross-functional Gemba walks, kaizen events, and tiered escalation huddles with Quality and Production teams to surface issues at the floor level and drive sustainable, team-based solutions.
  • Collaborate with Business Development and Project Engineering to incorporate lessons learned, design-for-manufacturability (DFM) feedback, and process improvement insights early in the product lifecycle -- reducing downstream engineering changes and accelerating time to first article.

Salary Range
$85,000 - $88,000
Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:



  • 4 yr. college degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years Manufacturing Engineering experience.
  • Have or obtain Lean 6 Green Belt certification within 1 year of start date


SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Working knowledge of AS9100D/ISO9001 Quality Management Standards
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 and IPC/J-STD-001 certification
  • MIL-STD-2042 certification
  • Familiarity with ITAR regulations preferred


Industry & Technical Experience



  • Expertise with military, aerospace connector, and cable designs preferred; connector, fiber optic, cable/harness, and electronic packaging assembly experience a plus
  • Lean manufacturing in Aerospace & Defense industry a plus
  • Excellent comprehension of engineering drawings and test procedures
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, 2D & 3D CAD (AutoCAD or Creo preferred), and ERP systems (P21 preferred); similar programs acceptable for both CAD and ERP

  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to expediently address technical issues as they arise
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage customers, suppliers, peers, and cross-functional teams through presentations, technical discussions, and day-to-day collaboration
