Overview
The Intern Coordinator (Program Coordinator I) will be the primary point of contact for the Institute of Government and Politics (IOGP) in recruiting, advising, and assisting political interns working in local, state, and federal internships. The position will also assist the IOGP Director in the designing of strategy for recruiting and training interns in preparation to their internships off campus. The position will work with the IOGP Director and the Government and External Relations Department in hosting intern and related events on USU campus, in Salt Lake City, Washington, DC and other locations as needed. The intern coordinator will report directly to the Director of the IOGP. This position may train and direct hourly employees, graduate students, and/or volunteers.

Responsibilities
  • Serves as a liaison between students, faculty, staff, other departments, and/or external constituencies on day-to-day project, operational, and/or administrative issues.
  • Writes, edits, and coordinates development of IOGP recruiting or information material on internships.
  • Advises students on which internships may be the most appropriate for their interests and qualifications.
  • Writes and/or assists with monthly newsletter regarding the IOGP.
  • May maintain and create content for IOGP website.
  • Provides updates and information to key stakeholder contacts, offices, or organizations that hire USU IOGP interns.
  • Collects and analyzes data; prepares scheduled and special reports; maintains program records and statistical information to meet state and federal requirements.
  • Presents to student clubs and classes regarding IOGP internship opportunities.
  • Analyzes problems and applies corrective action as needed.
  • Ensures that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualification:
  • Bachelor's degree OR an equivalent combination of education plus experience.

Preferred Qualification:
  • Previous USU intern experience is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to prioritize own work and multi-task.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to take initiative and ownership of project.
  • Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
  • Ability to direct the work of others.
  • Knowledge of computers and database/spreadsheet/word processing software.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Ability to interact with students, faculty, staff, and/or the public in a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of creativity, decision making, problem solving, and discretion as work is varied and may be undefined.
