The DC
CFAR is part of a national network of 20 CFARs supported by the National Institutes of Health (
NIH). The DC
CFAR mission is to advance our multi-institutional research effort to contribute to ending the
HIV epidemic and improving the health and quality of life of persons with
HIV in Washington, DC and beyond in partnership with community and government. The DC CFAR's unique citywide model unites the complementary scientific efforts of nine partner institutions in Washington, DC - The George Washington University, Georgetown University, Howard University, American University, Children's National Hospital, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the DC Department of Health, Whitman-Walker and Us Helping Us.
The Center Assistant supports and coordinates activities of the Administrative Core A (10%), Developmental Core B (30%), Advance Technology Core C (20%), Clinical and Population Sciences Core D (20%) and Social and Behavioral Sciences Core E (20%) of the District of Columbia Center for
AIDS Research (DC
CFAR).
The Center Assistant acts as the centralized Core Manager and serves as the primary liaison among the Developmental, Advanced Technology, Clinical and Population Sciences, Social and Behavioral and the Administrative Core in supporting Core activities. This role is responsible for the overall coordination of activities across multiple Cores:
Specific duties include:
- Assist Core leadership in the overall management of the Core including budget tracking for events and surveying Core users.
- Scheduling and planning, and evaluating meetings, research activities, and events for all Cores.
- Assist Senior Research Project Manager with tasks related to the pilot awards program and Developmental Core services requests. Coordinate with Core leadership to connect DC CFAR investigators with Core services.
- Track, synthesize, and report Core services and outcomes for the annual report, including publication compliance.
- Maintain and update record of Core activities and service provision, as in summary measures.
- Provide administrative support for the Women and HIV Scientific Interest Group.
- Assists in the management of the Core B No Investigator Left Behind and Developmental Funding Opportunities programs.
- Contribute to the annual report.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. |
| Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/
GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. |

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop working partnerships.
- Strong time management skills, prioritization abilities, and organizational skills.
- Previous experience working as an administrative research assistance or related area preferred
- Strong interest in HIV research.
