Overview:

We are seeking aProcess Controls Designerwho will focus on Serve as Process Controls Designer for the development and implementation of control drawing packages and standards for the Integrated Control System (ICS) at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS).This positionresidesin the CF & Vacuum Groupin the Controls Section,RAD,Neutron Sciences DirectorateatOak Ridge National Laboratory(ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Development and implementation of control drawing standards for the SNS ICS;collaboratewith other designers and engineersto ensure drawing packages consistently adhere toestablishedstandards and project requirements.

  • Perform field walk-downs and create as-built drawings of existing control systems at the SNS facility. Createnew designdrawing packages based on Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) based components to replace existing table I/O list format documentation.

  • Generate complete drawing packages from detail wire lists, including control rack layouts with BOMs, power distribution drawings, wiring diagrams, junction box layouts, and cable assembly documentation. Review documentation for accuracy and completeness prior to release.

  • Develop design packages toprocurecontrol system enclosures or racks from fabrication shops.Serve as a liaison between fabrication personnel and control engineers during rack/panel assembly, coordinating design updates and resolving issues to support project schedules and qualityobjectives.

  • Provide Document Change Notification (DCN) support through modification of existing drawings and creation of new documentation while ensuring compliance with configuration management processes.

  • Maintain documentation within the Document Controls Center (DCC) repository and coordinate with DCC personnel to ensure proper revision control, document accuracy, andtimelyupdates.

  • Work closely with members of the Control Systems Section to support accelerator power and reliability goals, including troubleshooting support, design improvement efforts, and coordination across projects when needed.

  • Ensure a safe and efficient work environment and compliance with ESH&Q procedures and programs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • An ASdegree inelectrical orelectronicstechnologies and at least5years ofPLC-based ProcessControl Designer experience(ahigh school diploma will be considered in lieu of degree with at least7years of relevant experience).

  • Proficiencywith AutoCAD to create wiring diagrams, loop drawings, PLC layouts, and P&ID drawingsfor complex control systems.

  • Experiencetranslatingwiring list or other forms of documentation into design drawings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience at a neutron user facility, synchrotron light source or other large-scale experimental physics project or user facility is highly preferred.

  • ExperienceutilizingAutoCAD tools to create design documentation for Allen-Bradley PLCs controls.

  • Experience with control system architecturesand distributed I/O over ControlNet,DeviceNet, and Ethernetcommunication. Process Control Designer experience with special emphasis inprotection systems and process controls.

  • Experience withdrawing revision / release control processes andmaintainingdocumentation in a central repository.

  • Knowledge ofEDRMor similarengineering project collaboration software
