Job Overview:

Step into a high-impact leadership role where your ability to drive production, build strong teams, and create operational stability is visible every shift. Ingersoll Rand is seeking a hands-on Production Supervisor for our 2nd Shift to lead manufacturing operations within our IRP, MP Pump, and Oberdorfer Pump business units in Alsip, Illinois. This role is built for a manufacturing leader who thrives on solving problems in real time, driving accountability, improving safety, and keeping production moving in a fast-paced environment where execution matters.

In this position, you will supervise and coordinate daily production operations within a union manufacturing environment, ensuring quality, cost effectiveness, and on-time delivery while following established standards and labor agreements. You will also support hiring and onboarding, manage performance and development discussions, maintain strong associate relations, and ensure consistent policy application. In addition, you will drive employee development and training while promoting a culture of engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement across the production team. Responsibility includes leading a production team in a true CNC machining and manufacturing environment where priorities shift quickly, shift-to-shift communication is critical, and operational discipline directly impacts quality, delivery, and customer satisfaction. Success requires strong floor engagement, people development, urgency in resolving issues, and clear communication to ensure continuity and alignment across shifts.

It is ideal for a supervisor with legitimate manufacturing leadership experience and direct exposure to machine shop and CNC production operations - not solely assembly, warehouse, or distribution environments. We're looking for someone who understands the pace and complexity of a real production floor: balancing schedules, managing bottlenecks, driving quality, supporting production continuity, and keeping operations running safely and efficiently in a high-accountability environment. The right leader will be comfortable making real-time decisions, leveraging SAP and operational data, and driving continuous improvement through lean manufacturing principles.

If you are energized by manufacturing leadership, enjoy building strong teams, and want to play a key role in an operation where your decisions directly influence safety, productivity, and operational success - we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures a safe work environment through frequent safety inspections, accident and near-miss investigations, follow-up actions, and targeted training to drive a zero-incident culture.
  • Builds and sustains a high-performing, engaged workforce by developing engagement strategies, managing headcount planning, and supporting recruiting, onboarding, training, retention, and consistent application of the CBA.
  • Supervises production associates to achieve key objectives across safety, quality, cost, inventory, delivery, downtime reduction, and engagement; conducts performance and development conversations and drives training and capability building.
  • Reviews daily and weekly production and shipping schedules, prioritizes work based on demand, coordinates and expedites hot parts, assigns rework, and maintains visual management boards to drive accountability and results.
  • Monitors production quality and equipment performance, ensuring adherence to quality standards and procedures to reduce defects, improve reliability, and minimize downtime.
  • Optimizes material utilization and production flow through bottleneck analysis and implementation of lean manufacturing solutions to ensure smooth operations.
  • Leads clear and consistent communication to keep the team informed on operational updates, priorities, business needs, and plant-level activities impacting production performance.
  • Drives a culture of continuous improvement by applying lean tools and engaging stakeholders to identify and implement process enhancements across the operation.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience with strong knowledge of quality control, inspection, and evaluation within a machine shop production environment.
  • 3+ years of manufacturing leadership experience, ideally in a CNC production environment, with a proven ability to develop employees, drive engagement, and reinforce performance through accountability and recognition.
  • 2+ years' hands-on experience with complex ERP systems such as SAP in a manufacturing environment.

  • Project Management & Execution Discipline - Demonstrates a successful track record of managing deadlines, delivering goals and projects on time and within scope; effectively uses project tools, structured communication, and strong facilitation skills to drive alignment, resolve issues, and ensure results.
  • Action Oriented Problem Solver - Takes decisive action in fast-paced environments, identifies and drives process improvements, and applies strong problem-solving and facilitation skills to remove barriers and maintain momentum toward operational goals.
  • Instills Trust & Builds Relationships - Earns confidence across all levels through transparency, consistency, and follow-through; fosters an engaging and inviting leadership style that supports a highly motivated, collaborative, and performance-driven supplier and team environment.
