Position Summary

We are seeking a full-time, Health Information Management (HIM) Manager to lead the HIM Department. This role is responsible for overseeing the integrity, security, and management of all patient medical records while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.

The HIM Manager also serves as the facility's HIPAA Security Officer, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all patient and facility information systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage daily operations of the Health Information Management Department
  • Ensure all medical records are accurate, complete, timely, and properly maintained
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, federal/state laws, and Joint Commission standards
  • Safeguard medical records against unauthorized access, loss, or tampering
  • Oversee medical record audits and quality improvement initiatives
  • Manage release of information (ROI) in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure timely retrieval of clinical and statistical data for reporting and utilization review
  • Supervise HIM staff and promote efficient workflows
  • Serve as HIPAA Security Officer, maintaining privacy and security policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders across departments

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field required
  • RHIA or RHIT certification preferred

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of HIM or medical records experience required
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Behavioral health or hospital setting experience a plus

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, and regulatory compliance
  • Knowledge of medical records management and coding practices
  • Strong leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems
