What You'll Do:

NPT seeks an accomplished Associate Director, Philanthropic Consulting to play a central role in guiding major philanthropists, families, and institutions in defining and achieving their charitable goals. This position is ideal for candidates with philanthropy consulting experience-individuals who have advised funders on strategic giving, impact measurement, and sector analysis, rather than candidates coming from fundraising, development, or wealth management backgrounds.
As part of NPT's Philanthropic Consulting team, you will serve as a trusted advisor and project leader, helping clients develop thoughtful, evidence-based giving strategies and translating their values into meaningful philanthropic action. You'll also contribute to the continued growth and innovation of NPT's consulting practice, helping to shape how we support donors and partners across the philanthropic ecosystem.


Compensation: $110,000 - $120,000 annual salary, plus 12% annual discretionary bonus.


Key Responsibilities


Client Engagement & Advisory


  • Serve as project lead or key contributor for consulting engagements with individual philanthropists, families, or foundations.


  • Partner with senior team members to design and deliver custom consulting and research solutions grounded in analysis and field insights.


  • Lead or participate in client workshops, strategy sessions, and board or family meetings to guide decision-making and build alignment.


  • Develop and manage project work plans, ensuring deliverables meet NPT's high standards for quality, insight, and impact.


Research, Landscape Analysis, and Strategy Synthesis


  • Support deep-dive research and analysis on a range of issue areas.


  • Engage with stakeholders and subject matter experts to incorporate diverse perspectives into strategic analysis.


  • Synthesize qualitative and quantitative information into clear, compelling client-facing materials.


  • Translate research insights into actionable strategies and guidance for clients.


Thought Leadership & Practice Development


  • Contribute to the creation of NPT's donor and advisor resources, case studies, and publications on emerging issues in philanthropy.


  • Collaborate with Communications & Marketing to develop thought-leadership materials that reflect NPT's expertise and elevate the field of strategic giving.


  • Identify opportunities to strengthen internal processes, enhance efficiency, and support practice growth.


Collaboration & Growth


  • Partner with colleagues across NPT to integrate consulting insights into the broader suite of the organization's offering to donors and partners.


  • Support business development through participation in prospect meetings, proposal development, and client onboarding.


  • Represent NPT at philanthropy and social impact convenings, maintaining visibility within the field and sharing insights on trends, challenges, and innovations.


Leadership


  • Deliver exceptional care and stewardship to consulting clients, ensuring the utmost discretion, trust, and responsiveness.

  • Collaborate across teams and with external partners to advance NPT's mission of increasing philanthropy in society.



What You Bring


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required; Master' degree in public policy, philanthropy, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.


  • 8+ years of relevant experience, including 5+ years in philanthropic consulting, foundation program roles, or advisory roles supporting high-net-worth or institutional funders.


  • Demonstrated success navigating complex, multi-stakeholder client engagements.


  • Exceptional writing and synthesis skills, with a track record of producing clear, compelling issue briefs, memos, or strategy documents; enjoys translating complex ideas into concise, decision-oriented narratives.


  • Strong analytical and project management skills, with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.


  • Deep knowledge of philanthropic strategy, issue-area research, and grantmaking best practices.


  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage credibly with clients, grantee partners, and field leaders.
