Safety Group Director
The Safety Group Director is responsible for providing executive leadership, strategic direction, and enterprise-wide oversight of the safety, health, environmental, and regulatory compliance programs as it pertains to STV's oversight of the client projects for Transportation North. This role develops and implements safety strategies, ensures compliance with applicable laws and standards, and promotes a culture of safety excellence across all operations, projects, and client engagements. The Vice President of Safety partners with executive leadership, operations, project teams, and field management to align safety performance with organizational goals and operational priorities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's environmental, health, and safety programs across one or multiple business units, projects, or client accounts.
- Provide strategic oversight of safety compliance with federal, state, local, and client-specific regulations, standards, and codes.
- Serve as the senior safety advisor to executive leadership, project management, operations leadership, and field management on safety, health, and environmental planning matters.
- Establish Transportation North safety policies, procedures, and work practices that support operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
- Direct and oversee safety leadership teams, inspectors, and field safety personnel to ensure consistent execution of safety initiatives and safeguards across all worksites.
- Lead the investigation and review of injuries, incidents, unsafe conditions, and near misses, including matters involving actual or potential liability, and ensure proper reporting, documentation, and corrective action follow-through.
- Oversee safety records, logs, reporting systems, and compliance documentation for reportable and non-reportable incidents.
- Ensure the effective administration and coordination of emergency response, medical, and first aid programs as applicable to company operations.
- Partner with project managers, supervisors, and engineering personnel to develop and implement safety procedures that translate corporate policy and regulatory requirements into effective work practices.
- Monitor and support compliance with environmental protection, pollution control, hazard communication, and related regulatory programs where applicable.
- Provide executive oversight of subcontractor and contractor safety performance, including coordination with contractor safety representatives, review of tool box meeting practices, and verification of compliance with applicable safety requirements.
- Champion safety training, education, orientation, and awareness initiatives for employees, supervisors, new hires, and subcontractor personnel to strengthen organizational safety culture.
- Support inspections of equipment, facilities, and work in progress to identify risks, improve controls, and reinforce safe operations.
- Establish performance metrics and reporting mechanisms to evaluate safety program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Business, or related field required.
- Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive safety leadership experience, including significant responsibility in multi-site, project-based, industrial, construction, engineering, or corporate operations environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading enterprise or regional environmental, health, and safety programs.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and other applicable safety, health, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven success in strategic planning, program development, compliance management, and incident investigation oversight.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and influencing senior leaders, operations teams, and external stakeholders.

Work Environment
This position operates in both corporate and field environments and requires regular interaction with executive leadership, project teams, contractors, clients, and regulatory stakeholders. The role may require travel to offices, project sites, and client locations to support safety performance and compliance objectives. Compensation Range: $167,632.13 - $191,579.57
