Work Type: Seasonal

Nature of Work: This is manual labor focused on the accurate and timely locating of City of Omaha underground sewer infrastructure and water, power, and communication lines in response to state-required One Call utility location requests. General supervision and assignments are received from an assigned supervisor.

Education and Experience: (The knowledge, skills, and abilities above may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience.)

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and ability to utilize a computer or mobile electronic devices, software, and applications for One Call ticket processing and GIS mapping system.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, the One Call Laws of Nebraska and Iowa.
  • Skill in the maintenance and use of assigned tools and equipment.
  • Skill in reading "as-built" plans and maps to find and paint the location of utilities in the field.
  • Ability to become proficient in using underground cable tracking equipment and magnetic locating device.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, contractors, utilities company staff, the Nebraska and Iowa One Call System staff, and members of the general public.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronic device technology and software.
  • Ability to learn and apply Manual on Uniform Traffic control Devices (MUTCD) rules for Work Zone Safety and Temporary Traffic Control (TTC).

Essential Functions: (Any one position may not perform all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all of the duties that may be performed in positions allocated to this classification.)

  • Evaluates the necessity of locating utilities for Nebraska and Iowa One Call Locate Tickets.
  • Locates utilities in an accurate and timely manner for the City's sanitary and sanitary combined and storm water collection systems, and marks ground surfaces showing sewer pipe and structure locations.
  • Locates traffic signal power and communication lines in an accurate and timely manner using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping software.
  • Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Documents work completed through clear and accurate entry in the work order system.
  • Clears snow from sidewalks, walkways, and stairs.
  • Maintains regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by the supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.

Special Qualifications: Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Pay Range: $19.22 Hourly
