Position Summary: The Assistant Professor of HVAC-R Technology is a full-time faculty position responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems as part of ENMU-Roswell's HVAC Excellence-accredited program. The faculty member supports student success and workforce readiness through classroom, laboratory, and hands-on training aligned with industry standards, EPA regulations, and safe work practices.
In addition to teaching, the role includes curriculum development, assessment of student learning outcomes, student advising, and participation in departmental and institutional initiatives. The successful candidate will engage in recruitment, community outreach, and professional development activities to strengthen industry partnerships and student pathways.
The position may include evening instruction and limited travel. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, student engagement, continuous improvement, and the ability to adapt to evolving academic and institutional needs. Familiarity with HVAC Excellence standards is required, as these guide the program's curriculum and instruction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach a range of HVAC-R courses, including:
- Heating systems (gas, electric, heat pumps)
- Air conditioning and refrigeration systems
- Electrical fundamentals and controls
- HVAC system diagnostics and troubleshooting
- Load calculations and system design basics
- Refrigerant handling and EPA compliance
- Prepare students for industry certifications, including EPA Section 608 and other relevant credentials.
- Develop and maintain course materials, syllabi, and instructional content, including online components delivered via Canvas.
- Monitor and report student attendance, academic performance, and learning outcomes.
- Maintain HVAC-R laboratory equipment, tools, and supplies in accordance with safety and instructional standards.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations related to refrigerants and HVAC systems.
- Advise students on academic planning, program requirements, and progress toward certificates and degrees.
- Participate in departmental planning, curriculum coordination, and semester course scheduling.
- Serve on college committees and attend required meetings, trainings, and campus events.
- Support student recruitment and community outreach initiatives, including participation in events and activities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:
- Associate's degree plus three years of full-time HVAC-R work experience
OR - Five years of full-time HVAC-R work experience
OR - Associate's degree plus Industry-recognized HVAC certifications
Note: Qualified applicants who do not presently hold an Associate's degree or required industry certifications (such as EPA 608) will be required to complete a degree and obtain certification within three years of hire date.
Preferred:
- Associate's degree or higher in a related field, such as:
- HVAC-R Technology
- Mechanical Systems Technology
- Industrial Maintenance
- Electrical Technology
- Teaching experience at a community college or trade school.
- EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal preferred).
- HVAC Excellence Certification or equivalent industry credential, such as NATE (North American Technician Excellence).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated experience supporting students with diverse educational backgrounds, including those who may be navigating higher education systems for the first time or who face financial, academic, or logistical barriers to completion.
- Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.

Working Conditions
-
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, in hot and cold environments, and may involve interaction with mechanical systems, electrical components, and refrigerants.
- Occasional exposure to minor safety hazards, such as cuts, bruises, or contact with HVAC-related equipment and materials.
- Workload follows routine deadlines with sufficient lead time; seasonal fluctuations are predictable. Some interruptions and external pressures may occur.
- Frequent physical activities include standing, sitting, talking, and hearing.
- Occasional physical activities include walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, handling objects, and lifting up to 80 pounds and carrying objects up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to read printed and electronic information.
- Work is performed in a non-smoking facility.
