Fetal Surgery Fellowship The Fetal Surgery Fellowship at Keck School of Medicine of USC is one of the few programs in the country dedicated to training fetal surgeons in the innovative minimally invasive fetal treatments for complex fetal conditions. Since 2006, the University of Southern California (USC) and Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) have partnered to create Los Angeles Fetal Surgery, a program dedicated to optimizing fetal and maternal health outcomes through compassionate, multidisciplinary care. The program is led by Dr. Ramen Chmait, Director of Los Angeles Fetal Surgery. With 20 years of experience as a fetal surgeon, he has performed over 2000 fetal interventions, including over 1100 twin-twin transfusion syndrome cases, and has published over 190 peer-reviewed articles on the topic of fetal surgery. We are one of only two centers in the United States that offers in-utero percutaneous repair of spina bifida. The program seeks a Clinical Instructor of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Fellow) to begin August 1, 2026 for a 1-year term. This fellowship provides advanced training in fetal diagnosis and intervention, including comprehensive ultrasound evaluation, Doppler assessment, and identification of complex congenital anomalies. The Fellow will gain progressive responsibility in performing and leading specialized procedures such as amnioreduction, intrauterine transfusions, laser photocoagulation, and minimally invasive fetal surgical interventions. The role emphasizes mastery of fetal pathophysiology and management of high-risk conditions, including twin-twin transfusion syndrome, fetal growth abnormalities, and alloimmunization disorders. The Fellow is expected to actively engage in research, develop scholarly work for publication, and contribute to academic conferences and educational initiatives. The position also requires strong professionalism, effective patient and provider communication, and participation in multidisciplinary care, quality improvement, and healthcare system processes.
