| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The
UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of six health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Social Work, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The School teaches approximately 600 PharmD students and 145 graduate students. The School has built a reputation for its continued pursuit of excellence, rigorous education and training programs, cutting-edge multidisciplinary research, progressive pharmacy practices, efficient business operations, and its outstanding faculty, staff, and students. The School was named the number one School of Pharmacy in the U.S. by the U.S. News and World Report. | Position Summary |

The Office of Human Resources and Engagement within the Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill supports a robust academic and research community through human resources guidance and workforce support. Ranked No. 1 nationally and among the top five schools globally, the Eshelman School of Pharmacy is distinguished by its mission driven culture, collaborative environment, and commitment to education, research, and public impact.
These positions serve assigned areas within the
UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy as Human Resources (HR) Business Partners, providing consultation, guidance, and support across a broad portfolio of human resources functions. The roles advise managers and leaders on complex workforce issues related to recruitment and staffing, classification and compensation, and policy interpretation and application.
The HR Business Partners support multiple appointment types, including permanent and temporary
SHRA and
EHRA Non-Faculty, Postdoctoral Researchers, student workers, and unpaid affiliates. The incumbents are expected to exercise a high degree of independent judgement; proactively identify workforce risks, trends, and needs; and navigate School-, University-, and System-level policies to support operational objectives while ensuring compliance. These roles function as trusted HR partners to leadership, supporting sound decision-making in complex and time-sensitive organizational contexts. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
| Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Bachelor's degree and at least one year of professional work experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
In addition, these positions require:
* Demonstrated experience in influencing and negotiating outcomes with managers and stakeholders.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
* Strong time-management, organizational, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing demands effectively.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences, including prospective employees, students, staff, managers, and senior leaders.
* Sound analytical judgment, with the ability to assess complex situations in full context and recommend appropriate courses of action, even in ambiguous or evolving circumstances.
* Consistent accuracy, attention to detail, and discretion in the handling of sensitive and confidential information. |
| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Three years of progressive professional-level human resources experience in an academic setting, preferably at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or elsewhere within the
UNC System;
* Experience providing client consultation across one or more core human resources disciplines, such as recruitment and hiring, classification and compensation, benefits and leave, or employee relations;
* Working knowledge of
UNC Chapel Hill policies, business processes, and HR systems, including, but not limited to, ConnectCarolina, PeopleAdmin, LawLogix, the Time Information Management (
TIM) system, etc. |
