The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) is seeking a dynamic agent with focus on delivering premier customer service. The MVA Vehicle Compliance Agent I is responsible for performing and monitoring mechanical inspections of buses to ensure the safe operating condition and transportation of persons.

The MVA Vehicle Compliance Agent I is a contributing level of work performing visual and mechanical inspections of school buses to ensure the safe operating condition and transportation of students in accordance with applicable state Federal Motor Vehicle Laws, rules, and regulations.

Responsibilities included:
  • Conducting mechanical, safety and preventive maintenance inspections of motor vehicles to ensure that they are safe and in compliance with applicable Federal and State laws, rules and regulations.
  • Preparing reports and maintaining records of inspections, and observations to document conformance with applicable Federal and State laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Visually inspects lights, exhaust and electrical systems, steering and suspension systems, wheel alignment and frames and bodies to observe proper operating conditions and excessive wear and damage.
  • Measuring tire tread depth and pressure using tread and pressure gauges, measuring brake linings, discs and drums using calipers and micrometers
The current vacancy is located in the Office of MVA School Bus Safety in Glen Burnie, Maryland (Anne Arundel County).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three (3) years of experience involving customer service-related activities and one year of experience performing or overseeing automotive engine repairs or automotive engine/emissions inspections.

Note: Additional experience as stated above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.


Licenses & Certifications

1. Employees in this classification are assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees will be required to possess a Class C motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification will be required to complete and comply with specific required testing and training requirements for the specific area/ unit assigned.
