General Responsibilities:
Terracon's Harrisburg's office is looking for a talented addition to our Environmental Department! We are looking for a Field Scientist for asbestos, lead based paint, and industrial hygiene projects. Typical projects include sampling for asbestos, lead, mold, and radon; hazardous materials inspections; indoor air quality testing; water quality sampling, and soil sampling. At times, you will oversee subcontractors on job sites. The selected candidate will also complete subsequent asbestos and lead abatement observations and clearance sampling. Typical responsibilities will also include routine maintenance of field equipment and compiling notes into basic reports.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.

  • Technical background in asbestos, lead, and industrial hygiene surveys and abatement planning/oversight.

  • Willing to be flexible on project schedule to get work completed per client needs.

  • Performs site visits, field observations, and field data collection for assignments.

  • Routine maintenance of field equipment.

  • Assists in the collection and analysis of data from laboratory reports (sampling data), reports, maps, and drawings.

  • Tabulate electronic environmental and assessment data and assist with the development of corresponding reports.

  • Coordinate work with supervisors and other environmental staff.

  • May have limited client contact pertaining to specific projects/tasks.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related science field and a minimum of 1 year related experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years' related experience.

  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

Preferred Certification:

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification

  • Pennsylvania Asbestos Inspector Certification or other Asbestos Certifications

  • Pennsylvania Lead Inspector or Risk Assessor Certification
