Position: Executive Peer Advisor Liaison

Department: Office of Academic Advising

Reports to: Frans Moncayo, frans.moncayo@njit.edu

Hours per week: 3-5

Employment Period: Fall

Pay Rate: 16.92 - 16.92

Position Description:

We are students working to help our peers with transition and acclimate to New Jersey Institute of Technology in order to support their academic success. We serve as a campus resource for our peers in order to:
Aid students in solving basic problems such as figuring out functional schedules, questions about classes, professors and majors, co-ops and internship processes, etc.
Refer students to the necessary resource(s), office(s), department(s) or administrator(s)
Offer general information about learning at NJIT, registration, major/minor declaration, transfer processes and campus services

Arrive on time to scheduled hours in the office, assigned first-year seminar (FYS) classes, P.A.C.E seminar (working with students on academic probation), OAA events (that require additional assistance), and meetings with supervisors and students
Respond to student concerns, triage student needs, and make appropriate referrals when needed
Make appointments for students with advisors and educate students on the appointment-making process
Complete projects, collateral assignments, and tasks on time and in an efficient manner
Provide follow-up support after an advising appointment
Be available to assist walk-in students during office hours
Co-lead assigned First-Year Seminar course with an assigned OAA advisor
Provide administrative support duties which include, but are not limited to: inputting data on spreadsheets, copying, creation of flyers and other marketing initiatives, updating resources and documents
Host or co-host developmental workshops, programs, or seminars for peers on a variety of topics (e.g. stress relief, effective study habits, communication styles, professionalism, etc.)
Participate in one of the various PAL committees (Social Media, Tabling/Social Events, Community Service, Workshop)
Participate in a community service event each semester with PALS & OAA
Attend 1-2 weekend Open House events per semester (compensation included)
Other duties as assigned by PAL Coordinator
